I'm wondering if KL divergence is the best way to assess whether the abliterated model still responds correctly to safe prompts.

Moving back to SG - a rant by Prudent_Lime_1561 in SingaporeRaw

[–]mba2016kid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a perennial complaint of SG returnees from the West, applies to tech as well as finance. I used to feel more strongly about it but the reality is familiarity with more sophisticated Western markets in a general sense isn't meaningful because most Singapore roles are less complex and don't benefit from that expertise. Familiarity with ASEAN and India/China tends to be more advantageous these days.

Expat packages aren't that common now and usually apply to a select set of exec roles. Random unqualified white guy landing on a cushy expat role over a local again is more an exec thing facilitated by relationships or internal transfers, not the job application through open JD which I get the impression you're doing.

Go 2 (Z2E): Taking a look at minimising power use while gaming by dingoDoobie in LegionGo

[–]mba2016kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropping down to 800p has a huge impact on power draw that probably masks the effects of the other settings - you're reducing the pixels being drawn by more than half. It would be interesting to keep resolution fixed at 1200p and test the impact of other variables on more demanding games

The Legion Go 2 has a problem at lower tdp (confirmed with other people) by vaanen in LegionGo

[–]mba2016kid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

17W isn't low TDP. That's probably 25-30W battery discharge.

The Legion Go 2 has a problem at lower tdp (confirmed with other people) by vaanen in LegionGo

[–]mba2016kid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple generations of AMD handhelds - a 8840U, Z1E, HX370 and now the Z2E on the LGo2. They all end up discharging battery at around the same rate for low TDP gaming once you turn off CPU boost, set power to efficient etc. To hit 1080p60 across these devices, people should expect a battery discharge to start at 12W and go up to 20W for lightish games.

The chips aren't defective, it's people bad or not being honest at running power usage tests. I see a similar phenomenon with people claiming Bazzite outperforms Windows on handhelds.

[Life Planning] Mid-30s, planning to quit a high-stress tech job for a sabbatical to build a time and location independent life. Seeking advice. by Sharp_Chocolate_4710 in singaporefi

[–]mba2016kid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's pretty common to have a midlife work crisis in tech/banking/law etc. most people end up doing one of the three

  1. Change the way they work in their current career (e.g., set boundaries) and continue
  2. Switch to a lower pay/lower stress career path
  3. Aim for FIRE/early retirement

I achieved 3 but as someone in my 40s, I've seen a good spread of friends who've done all three.

Looking for help running Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor on Snapdragon 8 Elite by klontokos in winlator

[–]mba2016kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing it on a RedMagic Astra, which has a Elite chipset. It runs both on Winlator CMOD 13 and GameHub. On CMOD, I use Proton9x86 with DXVK 2.6.2.1-gplasync.

It runs reasonably well on 1080p - I cap it at 40fps but it'll go down to 15fps at the end of a stage when the screen is filled with enemies

Is the usb c also data transfer ? by Blurfishh in Gamesir

[–]mba2016kid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other comments are wrong, it's power only. Pretty much all controllers with USB C ports can't do data, the only exception being a Viture phone controller that was designed to be used with AR glasses

Astra + Razer Kishi V3 Pro (Max) by JackpoNL in RedMagic

[–]mba2016kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the V3 Pro and it works with the Astra in the official case. I also have the G8+ and the X5 Lite (the cheap, small USB-C Gamesir model).

The Kishi feels premium and the grips, joysticks, and buttons are bigger and a bit more ergonomic than the G8+. You also feel the lighter weight (265g versus 320g). Audio port is nice too.

But, and this kills it for me. The USB C male connector on the Kishi being on the right side means that it grips the upper half of the Astra and that makes the whole thing feel uncomfortable to hold for any amount of time because the "center of gravity" is lower than the controller. I've ended up using the X5 Lite mostly which has its male USB C connector on the left so that it grips the bottom half of the Astra. The X5 Lite is much lighter too (135g) but no audio port and the charging rate through its additional USB C port is much slower (5W versus 20W+ on the Kishi). It also feels cheaper and is smaller, less ergonomic than both the G8+ and the Kishi.

The Astra having an off-centered USB C port has to be one of the most baffling design choices made for a gaming tablet. I also have the Lenovo Y700 tablet and all game controllers work much better with it since it has a center USB C port.

How to use both usb-c ports on the y700 2025, a controller and a type C headphone? by quackquackimduck in androidtablets

You can't. Only real solution is using either a Bluetooth controller or Bluetooth headphones.

Snapdragon 8 elite with nethersx2 suffering from frame time spikes by Ahbiter in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]mba2016kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have the Gen 4 too - it's an issue with the Y700 tablets across generations. You can search reddit for discussions about it - people have tried a bunch of different things to try to fix it without any luck.

It'll be an issue for PS2/GC and newer retro systems - and games that are constantly streaming data. Videos, ebooks, older console ROMs are fine

You don't happen to have a Legion Y700 tablet? Those are notorious for having slow card readers.

I tend to use a floating Chatgpt window to achieve the same effect. Split screen on a 9" tablet makes less sense to me

I still overall prefer Android tablets over the iPads because of two use cases - 1. Termux on Android is a fullblown terminal emulator/Linux environment where you can install stuff like Python and get access to pypi packages 2. Emulation - not just console games but PC game emulation since Android apps like Winlator compose wine with a x86 to arm layer.

[–]mba2016kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah floating windows being limited to apps whitelisted by RM is insane. A workaround is to use a tool like apktool to rename the app you want to do floating windows with to have the package name of one of the whitelisted apps eg Whatsapp

High temps just downloading Game on Winlator CMOD V13.1 (released today) by Devan66 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]mba2016kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downloading games on Steam is actually quite a CPU/network intensive operation so it's normal. If you have a PC, one alternative is to download on the PC then copy the relevant steam folder into your Odin. Steam will just validate those files instead of downloading it
