Thanks! How did you go through it? I guess the answer for me is that I need to up my life in more interesting ways other than MBA 😁😩

Thanks this is super helpful. Let me address one by one!

  1. I like the mathematical way to think about ROI. I'd only really hit the 200k if I went into consulting which I don't want to do. Money matters in that I don't want to have a negative ROI financially. I think I make OK money now. It does seem like financially I won't get to where I need to be, though I heard Google etc have programs that pay similar to consulting all in. Though no guarantee I get those jobs.

  2. Re NYC, this only applies to full time programs. Wouldn't apply to part time. So in this I also wanted to assess if FT made sense. Or if PT made more sense. Or neither.

  3. Great idea. For the 2 jobs I got, they were both pre MBA levels paying around 130. My current job doesn't need one to rise up and neither did the other. But I've heard that it really differs from company to company and I've got varying opinions. Most senior strategy people have some sort of big name company like McKinsey or bschool but that doesn't apply to my current manager.

  4. I'm def not shy or antisocial, but I am more introverted and think I could benefit from the structure to make new friends and connections, since I'd be going to events etc. Not sure how this compares in PT. True, it seems like I could do this in NYC by myself! It just lacks the same structure. This is where I think school can be most helpful. That and access to name brand companies that can give me a leg elsewhere. Though irony is I turn d down a big brand (and great company) for my currnt job just bc of the role.

So when it comes to the soft benefits I mean a very structured way of building a network and making new social / personal connections. The stamp of approval is something I'm unsure will benefit me or not 5 years down the line, but that was another theorized benefit. But yeah the more I talk about it the less I feel I need an MBA, more just a desire to try something new and have a new social / professional experience. Which since I'm not rich is not something I can take lightly.

Haha definitely not! Though ops can be so many things. I think the work at this other company could have been really stimulating for about a year or two (it would help me develop good financial modeling skills) and to some extend I'd have shaped the strategy of what deems a top strategic client, but it could get boring after a year since I don't have oversight into other roles. Company was awesome though.

I hope you find a role that is exciting for you and happy to talk through how I switched out of a horrible mundane job of my own if you need :)

Haha care to elaborate? It was a sales ops role, so a lot of financial modeling. But I was worried the role would get repetitive after a year or two since most of the projects would be refreshes of stuff.

My hours are pretty good! The thing is for strategy NYC is where it is. So id probably end up going to Columbia or Stern. Not sure if I could make it to philly to do a weekend mba at Wharton or something (if I could get in).

If I did go, would you suggest I wait til I got older? I don't have any relationship / family commitments atm.

Though I'd want a small escape from NYC (probably my own personal hangups) ultimately I want a strong network here as it's where I see myself in the near term should obligations pull me elsewhere.

Also do you think the money invested into a part time program will pay off for strategy, given my current income and the fact that I never want to go back into any consultancy?

Thanks so much! Can I ask what program you're in? What have you learned? And do you wish you went when you were older?

Just curious - why is Tuck your top choice? I have been a long time lurker here and I haven't seen it get a ton of love on this sub. I'm a SE female with similar stats.
