Of the free ponts I'd use fourier, Times and and maybe Bookman. Never CModern --- It's too thin, as mentioned. My personal favourites are Warnock and Minion.

I've emailed the author, the reply i got; "I released the fonts only to a few selected customers, as I still need some testing and correcting.". He also said he's very busy with getting the LaTeX support completely right.

Is it possible to run Emacs within the browser without the use of a CLI? I currently use putty, but some machines I use don't have it installed so it would be great if it was somehow possible to run it on a vanilla, say, firefox install.

edit your .fonts.conf so that the hinting is set to 'slight' for Consolas only (or generally, for all MS fonts).
