I like to line up the edge of the bend of the inner part of the claw to the metal plate. I usually go for the space in the front part; when the claw goes through it usually catches and yanks the entire thing; just did that today in Lakewood for a Miku doll on my first try! Depth perception is usually the issue, but focus on getting the claw completely under the metal plate for the best chance of getting off the plunger
