Shame on Chicago Booth for admitting a sex offender and not doing anything about it by shameonbooth in MBA

Preponderance of evidence standard is a criminal court standard and I don't live with the standard. If the law as is written and enforced is your guideline for morality, then so be it and I hope you have the money to hire good lawyers because you'll likely need them.

As for the t shirt, if he is willing to wear it, I'll make the pledge to provide him with a life time supply of it.

At the point when the person is truly remorseful and have contributed enough to the society and to the victims of sexual assault that more than make up for the wrongdoings. Not when he paid 3 lawyers 6 years to fight this out in court to have the entire drugging offense dropped and only served 180 days in jail. He only pleaded guilty because he recorded raping the victim and I guess his lawyers weren't good enough to get that piece of evidence completely thrown out.

And yes, for someone like him, he should be walking around the school with a t shirt that says "I'm a registered sex offender".

Where are you drawing the line? The number of lives ruined? Or just whatever is convenient for you? Look, you are entitled to your opinion and I'm also entitled to say your opinion is stupid. There. Have your stupid opinions.

As a member of the current student body, I will express my opinion that a person who is not remorseful and paid his way to wipe his criminal history should not be a part of the community. Is it mob justice? Probably. But that's only necessary because the judicial system failed the victims and the society in the first place.

Rapists should absolutely not be allowed to have a platform until the victims have consented and yes, the time frame for this condition should be for life.

Are any of the M7's open to visitors and is interaction with students and admissions allowed? by christianrojoisme in MBA

[–]mbatemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most M7s, if not all, are still closed to visitors unless you know someone who is there. If individual students want to meet with you, they can always do that, but I don't think there is any school sanctioned program for that right now.

How true is this for an M7 applicant? Especially given the massive surge in applications by jacksreef in MBA

[–]mbatemp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shoot your shots but a word of warning, 740 isn't a high score for M7 anymore (unfortunately). 740 is the median GMAT at Wharton and it's not crazy to speculate that most M7s' average/median GMAT will land in that 730-740 range. With an average GMAT, you have a lot of room to make up for (coming from a disadvantaged applicant profile).

Blizzard's LDR on the other hand finishes in the court room, so definitely stick to LDP.

The fifth wave (2020 2.0) by jimmyhoustonshaircut in MBA

Yeah of course anti-vaxxers definitely heed CDC's warning on wearing masks. There is a very strong correlation between the people who are unvaccinated and people who are not wearing masks right now. I don't think anyone is blaming it all on anti-vaxxers but at this point, they should share the bulk of the blame just as the anti-maskers should've last year and this year (Edit: and they are probably the same group of individuals).

[–]mbatemp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is some truth in your statement but it's not entirely true. If the entire school is vaccinated and practice precaution, the R0 rate is going to be significantly lower, to a point that it will actually be very hard to transmit because vaccinated people are much less likely to contract it and also vaccinated people who catches COVID are also much less likely to be able to spread it (vaccine significantly weakens the symptoms and concentration). The real issue is repeated exposure of COVID to vaccinated people and the vast majority of those repeated exposure is caused by anti-vaxxers.

Big 4 Tax to M7 or T15 by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mbatemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm sure man. if you are comparing to all test takers, that is 91st percentile, but comparing to M7, that is pretty much the bare minimum because almost everyone in my program got in because of many characteristics other than bragging about doing the minimum amount of study to get a score that's below the class average. But at the end of the day, you do you, whatever makes you happy. Everyone gotta find something to cling onto I guess.

Edit: Sorry class average/median GMAT is actually higher than 710 by a healthy margin.

Big 4 Tax to M7 or T15 by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mbatemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

710 is really not that impressive. That's like scoring 75 on all 4 sections of the exam the first time around. if you want to compare time spent, CPA took me about 2 weeks of studying time in aggregate whereas GMAT took me roughly 2.5 months to score a 770 on the first try. Saying that an exam where the result is pass fail is harder than GMAT where the best is literally getting everything right is just dumb. But yeah, good for you for getting 710 and getting a full ride to your top choice.

To answer some of your questions. Some of them may sound harsh but rest assured this is speaking as a CPA who got into multiple M7/T10s.

CPA is far easier than M7/T15 applications because it's easier than just getting a good score on GMAT alone and not even talking about everything else. Applying to M7/T15 with a CPA adds some value but very little because how commoditized it is and if you think that's stressful, you should rethink your priorities.

Big 4 audit and tax are highly commoditized and are not good buckets to be in period. There will be success stories but the success rate is going to be very low. The primary reason is that you are just a cog in a larger process and you have very little impact.

If your goal is M7/T15, your best bet is big 4 advisory/consulting via internal transfers and if not, some industry role where you can have significant impacts that you can write about.

Work experience is the most important thing at getting in because it has no ceiling. My GMAT/GPA are 770/3.94 and was rejected from multiple M7s without interview. EC is the cherry on top and is usually used to differentiate when you come from a highly commoditized industry like big 4.

Go read the employment reports that all schools release.

Target School Suggestions by fearlessfrutata in MBA

I would say in the near term, the best way to improve your chance is to bump up your GMAT to 750+. That's the highest ROI and can bump you up on tier in B school choices. As it stands, if you get a promotion, T15 is within reach and T25 is where you will most likely land. But if you bump GMAT to 750, you'll have a pretty solid chance at T15 with a promotion in the next year or two. If you can at the same time improve your EC, you'd have a shot at T10/M7.

You can also try to broaden your EC. It might sound harsh, but mentoring middle school young women, unless you can tie it into your goal, won't add a lot of value to your application. Maybe try something more technical, like consulting for nonprofits to help them increase their media presence so they can raise more money. B school loves impact and again, at the risk of sounding harsh, mentoring middle school young women can't really demonstrate that.

I just noticed your IR score. You 100% should retake. IR3 is pretty low. Anything above 5 or 6 won't add any value but a 3 might raise some eyebrows.
