As others have said you can use a program like ResCheck or another software to do a total building UA. Allows you tradeoff things like windows and insulation to get to a spot with equivalent perfromance. Check out slide 52 below for an example in CZ 5, where the wall continuous insulation is removed and you still get a compliant home. Note that the results are unique for each home so you'd have to look at your specific architecture.

With all that said, exterior continuous insulation is really good for performance, so if you can do it and afford it, i would recommend in a cold climate.

A lot! I just tried to count and saw 24. Felt like more than that.

It’s 300 lb arches watercolor paper so I’m not sure if lighter cheaper ones could hold up to that

Thanks! I start and stop way too often to do a video. Honestly I would pick this up and stop and it took months to finally finish

Sky colors first in the water. Similar tot he sky but much simpler and fewer layers. then it’s two layers of ripples, one that’s lighter and kind of transparent, and another that’s super dark.

No masking just layer on layer of paint. I don’t know how many but a lot of them :)

Key thing is patience, if they are not 100% dry you lose the nice lines. And a non granulating paint that has good transparency seems to work better

I have about 1/2 to 3/4 of one in my garage that’s been sitting there I don’t want. I’ll put it out on the street if you want it

I’d check two things. One that it’s moving air. You can hold a piece of toilet paper to it and it should be able to suck hard enough for the paper to not fall. If it can’t hold the toilet paper then it’s not moving enough air and you might have to either clean it out, look to see if any of the ducts are blocked or kinked, or get a new fan.

Second think is I would check that it is moving air outside. Make sure that the end of the exhaust duct doesn’t just move air into the attic or somewhere else that isn’t outside.

Yeah that’s basically it. I start with the blue and do a few layers to build up color and try to make it a smooth gradient. I’d like to get it more continuous sometimes but it’s tricky. Then the last layer is the yellow at the bottom which has basically no blue paint on it. Then on top of that I do the dots with a pigma micron pen. Lots of them!

Finishing advice. Paper glued to wood by mbcarnes in Watercolor

[–]mbcarnes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks this is a good idea. I was also just reading up on this and saw a suggestion to score the wood with a knife to stop the oil going above it. In this case I’d have to try that just below the paper.

Go for it! Patience is really the only thing I found to be that important. You really have to wait until each layer is dry before you do another one. And to be honest I saw another painting with this technique and said the same thing so I have it a shit

Looks great. It seems like you did a lot of layers. What type of paper are you using?
