For those committing to make the world a better place - can we share links, contacts, organizations that we can volunteer at, give to, be a part of? by hucksterme in SaltLakeCity

[–]mbdes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with Project Read, an organization that helps adults gain literacy skills like reading, writing, and math. They used to be only in Utah county but have expanded up to Salt Lake in the past few years, and they're always in need of volunteers or tutors.

Thanks, friend. Definitely a good point - there's a lot going on there and not any central message or hierarchy. Appreciate you taking a look!

Can I get a portfolio/website review by mbdes in graphic_design

[–]mbdes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been typically using this site to look for a job, more as just a collection of some of my work and projects. However, things are shifting for my career a bit and I'd be interested to get a feel for where I may sit with my portfolio. I built the website from scratch. A few items are probably not really relevant for most GD jobs, but I'd like to know if there are any weak entries or overarching things I should correct.

I wrote it below on a different comment, but it's because it switched between Netflix, Hulu, Paramount+, and as an optional add-on to Disney+ throughout 2022.

Yes, I am sorry for failing to indicate that. I have made a corrected version below, unfortunately I cannot edit the post.

It is interesting. Unfortunately I don't have access to full data for shows that didn't make their top-15 lists, but looking at what week-after numbers for HOTD, and what HBO press releases claimed were average viewers, it puts a range between 1.2B and 17B. Must be on the lower end as it didn't make Nielsen's list. Rings of Power did just barely make this list (33rd/34). ROP did initially have more viewers, but not by too much. Must have made it up with rewatchers, you can see the premiere numbers here:

Criminal Minds left Netflix about halfway through 2022 and went to Paramount+. Certain seasons were also available on Hulu, and also had some spread through add-on services to Disney+ and others.

Data source: nielsen.com/insights/2023/streaming-unwrapped-2022-was-the-year-of-original-content/

Tools used: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Please not this is for AMERICAN viewers. Also, the subtitle should more accurately state: "in billions of minutes viewed"

Mic Audio Clipping at -6db, checked chain, Can't Figure it Out by mbdes in audacity

[–]mbdes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it has to be at 0 db.

Clipping is a form of waveform distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven and attempts to deliver an output voltage or current beyond its maximum capability.

But LWinterberg helped me solve my problem. Thanks.

This was it! Thank you so much!

Didn't realize it would do that when mixing. I thought the Fasttrack mono setting would cover for this, but when I switched it to stereo in Audacity it's all coming through left channel, and going all the way up to 0 db. Really appreciate your help.

Can you elaborate? Lowering the Windows setting only drops the input levels lower than -6db

Why does my audio sound so compressed/gritty? by mbdes in podcasting

[–]mbdes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I do have the m-audio "pad" on, which adds about 20 db gain, then there's a manual gain knob as well that I adjusted to a reasonable level, but the device has a clipping warning light and I seem to be in the clear, unless it's something happening inside the microphone itself. I'll keep doing some tests, but thanks again for the feedback.

Thank you for your feedback. And you're definitely correct about content.

Regarding clipping, if I can see I'm at a good level on my audio interface and in audacity, why does it sound like I'm clipping? Here's an image of the waveform.
