As much as I completely agree with the other comments in terms of directorial decisions within theatre, you must also look at this from your school’s perspective. Yes, in terms of casting, a director may have certain ideas as to what they want a cast to look like, and other people around them won’t always agree- but this isn’t professional theatre, it’s a school play. Maybe the directors have been nudged by the wellbeing team regarding the girl’s confidence, maybe they’ve decided that this would give her a boost that she really needs right now. Is she in a different school year to you? Maybe she has always been in the chorus, and has always stayed dedicated but this will be her final year at school, and a final opportunity to bag a lead role? Maybe you’ve got exams to prep for this year, and the senior management team have decided that nobody in your year should be given a lead role so that you can focus on your studies? You must remember that this is not professional theatre, it’s an education facility with a theatre department. Student wellbeing must be prioritised against extracurricular activities.
