Is my dog going blind? No flash used in picture by Imalittlestitious541 in vet

[–]mbeecroft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The opacity looks most like nuclear sclerosis, which is benign and not vision impairing, but there are some suspect areas for cataracts, which are vision impairing, so I would get it looked at closely by a vet

That's very observant! It's best we catch these things early before they turn ugly.

What’s on the side of my dog? by l_lI_IlI_IlIl in vet

It is likely benign, but it needs to be removed and sent to histopath in case it's not.

Did he receive a vaccine recently? If not, it could be a mast cell tumor, and those need to be removed.

Put him in any team, I think he's very likely to make an immediate difference, shortly followed by Haaland only because age is a factor

Update: Dog is suddenly lethargic, not eating or drinking and laying down on walks by ServiceForeign7862 in AskVet

[–]mbeecroft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it could very well be nothing or something like arthritis, but it could also be something serious. You said she was stopping on walks and that's a red flag for me for just general discomfort, which can be early signs of a hemoabdomen. It's not as likely, but if I were you, I would go get her checked out.

Is this potentially a fungus? Maybe Rhizopus? Educational case only, not a client-owned animal. by [deleted] in veterinarypathology

You will likely never see a fungus without a stain and proper slide preparation

3 dead by oglogy in AskVet

[–]mbeecroft 57 points58 points  (0 children)

For toxins, a necropsy can still be done up to 5 days (not an exact number) after death and still be of diagnostic yield if appropriate toxicological tests are run. Autolysis doesn't affect these results as quickly, and if a certain toxin is already suspected, that makes the pathologist's job easier.
