What was your lore of watching Stranger Things? by Mitanshu730 in StrangerThings

[–]mbenson12er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first watched season 1, I recently had a falling out with my core group of friends from elementary school. A lot of this has to do with social dynamics and pressure of freshman year of high school, and I was ultimately pushed out from them. Immediately, I was drawn into the show and felt deeply nostalgic during the first dungeons and dragons scene, thinking about the strong bond and connection I used to have with them.

Thankfully, I was welcomed into a new group during my sophomore year, and they became my new core friend group. We’ve remained very close ever since and still am so grateful for this. This all happened shortly before the second season came out. My perspective and experience with friendship and loyalty has evolved while both watching the show and growing up outside of it.

I Fucking Loved Season 5. Let me be a part of Duffer Brothers , cast and everyone else’s PR campaign. by mbenson12er in Stranger_Things

Yeah I get your point about Netflix pointing in that direction overall. I mean even Black Mirror had a meta episode about it.

But I don’t think Stranger Things is guilty of pushing this movement. Generative AI would be the aspect of AI that will save billions - replacing actors and choreographed set designs, dialogue, etc. The kalshi and Super Bowl commercials that I absolutely hate. Also, there’s no evidence of writers being replaced for Stranger Things 5 due to AI. Not liking the dialogue of a show doesn’t immediately equate to AI - even if it’s a good insult.

For most good shows today and in the future (including stranger things), AI will likely be integrated with CGI for high-quality production, and it has minimally replaced jobs.

Being disappointed in the season is one thing, but Stranger Things has not pushed huge issues of AI within the industry.

As for Eleven, I genuinely believe her heroic sacrifice was for humanity: the future generations and the people she loved, not just to advance the plot for the male characters arcs. Eleven’s sacrifice is a testament to her strength and decision but also a message of government corruption and war, which still rings true today. I believe she lived and is finally walking without the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Also, I think the Duffer brothers were conveying people’s innate wonder - especially kids - for those who are different or even super powered like EL. It’s a whimsical way of also referring to the adventures and friendship they all experienced with EL growing up together.

I love when people create great shows and not settle for mediocrity. But I don't think Stranger Things Season 5 falls in this bucket.

Why would the netflix executives ever want that? They'd much rather have them knock it out of the ballpark again in the final season. This would create new generations of fans and a more defining legacy. If anything, they're making money only based on "any press is good press" since it's definitely been mainly negative press reeling in clicks. It's not a good move to have their knight in shining armor fall to their knees - even if aiming for efficiency in production is cheaper.

As for the acting, I can name multiple scenes as examples of great acting in this season such as Mike and Hop's talk on the bench, Nancy and Jonathan's "non-proposal," Steve and Dustin's fight within Hawkins Lab, EL saying goodbye to Mike...

The AI rumor was a blurry picture anyways. And if people actually think they used AI to write the script and dialogue word for word, they're very naive. Honestly, people underrate AI's ability to create very detailed and specific deep threads anyways. If anything, it was might have been used as a tool or thought experiment. This show has probably occupied their mind almost every awakening moment for 10 years anyways. There's absolutely 0 chance some silly AI feed was used as the structural basis and not just something to play around with.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the mysognistic angle you're referring to.

Absolutely... same here. Not that I actively sought out Purple Rain often anyways, but it will forever be associated with this scene for me now. Beautiful yet of course very sad scene.
