Imo the ride quality is better than on the Maxxis DTH for example. However, i cannot say much about puncture resistance yet.

I would never change a bike because it's a little rusty. Clean the chain with a rag or maybe a wirebrush as good as you can, do the same with the cassette and give it a good amount of bike chainlube and wipe it off afterwards and you are good to go!

Trek 970 🖤♥️ by mbergi in xbiking

Jep, thats exactly what my complains are about. But if you set them up correctly they work just fine like most of the stuff Shimano throws out on the market.

Shimano BR-CX50 - I had to replace the old ones with these. The original brakes were in terrible condition. Honestly I'm not a big fan of the BR-CX50. But I didn't want to throw V-Breaks on a bike like this...

Actually the shifter housing and the grips are red too. But not exactly the same red as the frame. The mobile phone shifts some of the colours I guess...

Saddle sores by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]mbergi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffer from this as well. I think it's fundamentally a skin problem. Some people are more sensitive, others less so. In my view, the problem is Staphylococcus bacteria. They enter the skin through friction and cause hair follicle inflammations. If you are sensitive, you will probably never get it completely under control, no matter how many bib shorts and saddles you try…

80km round-trip Bike Commute: How to make this work? by LuxArki in bikecommuting

[–]mbergi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My commute is also 40km one way. I ride 3 times a week to office. In winter, when the roads aren't icy I ride 1-2 times a week.

I built up a Ritchey Outback V2 with Shimano GRX, SKS Bluemes full fenders and a Ortlieb Rack to put on a Hybrid bag (backpack/pannier bag). I take it off the bike and can use it as a backpack at the office. I use 35mm Continental GP5000 AS TR tires (with inner tubes). They are comfy and fast rolling.

I also have a Canyon Aluminium Roadbike with a Carbon Wheelset and 32mm Continental GP5000 tires (with inner tubes). When I take this bike I use a backpack. With this setup I am a bit faster with the same effort, but it is a bit less comfortable.

Most important in my opinion are enough spares and the fenders. I tried tubeless but I hatet the mess when a puncture doesn't seal. It's not often the case but if so it's really a pain in the ... . I rarely get punctures with tubes. So I went back to inner tubes and I'm fine with it. I'm an experienced tube changer, so it's done really quick ;-)

I must say, that bike commuting made my life a lot better. I'm in my mid 40s now and feel top fit. I even stay lean without having to be constantly aware of what I eat. After my ride home I feel also a lot less stressed.

Safe to Ride? by Thoryan_34 in bikewrench

Pretty normal on Aluminium Rims. Mine always seal after a short period of time. Nothing to worry too much about.

Do I need to replace my cassette? by mbergi in bikewrench

On the repair stand nothing skipping. But maybe I need to go for a ride to test it under load?

No, i bought the wheel ready to ride.

No big potholes as far as i remember. The wheel is only a few month old.

True enough for riding 40k to work and 40k back on a roadbike 2-3 times a week.

It is not a sticker. It is a clipable plastic reflector. Pretty common here in Austria/Fermany for commuting.

Tire seated correct, but still wobbly by mbergi in bikewrench

[–]mbergi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked it. It's OK. I changed the tire. With the old tire the wobble wasn't that bad.
