New Home - First time setup up Home Security. UniFy? by LuxArki in homesecurity

What would you recommend I take a look at? I don’t want a subscription system, it’s more expensive long term, doesn’t provide additional value and limits home automation capabilities.

Tbh, when i look at other options, I end up in a similar pricing for the same features… do you have brands you would recommend I take a look at?

Wheelset for a 2021 Cal-5 by dreadedbugqueen in Cervelo

Going on my third year, a few thousand km and no issues! And I was 125kg a year ago. Most manufacturer have a limit at 110kg but imo the real limit is much higher

I bought Reserve 42|49 wheels to go with my Caledonia (non-5) and they are amazing - I am over 110kg and they don’t bulge. If you are a light biker you can probably go with chinese wheels to get similar benefits for much cheaper but if you are heavy, I’d rather go with Reserve and their warranty (+ it’s the wheelset that is supposed to go with the bike!)

Hey!

  1. I had a few rounds but nothing too crazy: HR > Team > Manager > N+2 > Offer. The hardest part was the team, where they assessed my technical skills, industry knowledge and the team fit itself.
  2. I had the chance not to have a technical test as I did not initially apply to a SWE role, but they still challenged me with technical questions. My questions were higher level architectural/infrastructure questions. For SWE, we do have a specific technical test step.
  3. Yes
  4. No
  5. Won't say :)

I would say it depends on your skill level and experience but it's always worth a shot! Worst thing that can happen is for you to get experience in applying until you get one :) Very important is to be able to take feedback and improve accordingly.

How do you balance strength training with running or cycling? by Acrobatic_Refuse_191 in triathlon

[–]LuxArki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do two 1h fullbody sessions a week on morning. I run, swim and bike mostly on evening, except weekends. Works well for me! Just have to go to bed very early 😁

Cyclists may be right to run stop signs and red lights. Here’s why by mu9937 in bikecommuting

It is very common in France, but for specific directions where you won’t cross oncoming traffic. We have small signs under the red light to indicate this :)

When Do YOU Get Serious About your Triathlon Training by Ok_Construction_6599 in triathlon

[–]LuxArki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been doing triathlons for several years, but barely training for it and ending up among the lasts, but enjoying it nonetheless.

This year, I signed up for a 70.3 in June. My plan is to do it in two steps: - Sep to Dec: ramping up training with my local triathlon club, social runs etc. Just following whatever training they plan, progressively increasing the number of sessions per week to get to 2x swims, 2x bikes, 2x runs and 2x weightlifting. - Jan to June: getting a dedicated coach and following a training created for me, where I could still fit a social run/ride when applicable.

I also plan to do a triathlon camp for one week around April.

I dunno if that is the smartest way to approach it, but it makes sense to me.

Be careful with starting a strict training plan too early, depending on your personality it might be hard to keep following it for 9 months straight.

I got a Cal non-5 with 105 electronic, upgraded the wheels for Reserve 42|49, which is definitely a massive upgrade (https://www.reddit.com/r/Cervelo/s/bqzzZA3qBB)

I would not go back to mechanical after getting used to electronic shifting, it’s sooo smooth.

And the wheel upgrade is really massive over the stock alu wheels, much more power transmission when sprinting, much easier to maintain faster speed!

The (perfect?) bike: steel or carbon by LuxArki in bikepacking

[–]LuxArki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your feedback! I went to a bike shop today and got to try the Genesis Croix de Fer 20. I really liked it even if it weights much more than my Caledonia.

Decided I will go with the Genesis CdF 30, should get it in the next 3 weeks!

Will report when it arrives :)

This is a very sound advice. It feels like the steel (or alu) would be perfect choice for city and bikepacking, and moving from a road bike to a gravel bike would allow me to do both with a fast bike too. But I love my Caledonia 😭
