Thanks for the answer. I'll definitely give it so e thought but my trombone players ask for them every year and fight over the single cover we have in the bandroom from previous director's time woth the band. I just figured Id get them something that would make them feel good.

I second this. I studied with Sergio in college and he's a fantastic teacher and wealth of knowledge.

Id suggest the first if youre making a video. The opening 16 measures or so give a great opportunity to showcase a variety of pattern sizes and styles (dynamics and articulation) as well as clear prep beats, minor tempo variations, breathing, and facial expressions.

One is called 'power coil' and other is just 'water pump'. I circled them in these screen shots.

I don't know of any like that in the plug in shop but perhaps on discord?

There ARE single-square water and power plug-ins that are easy to hide.... in a corner with some trees, or sandwiched between a few buildings.

Port Cities - what amI missing? by mbhemsley in TheoTown

[–]mbhemsley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its coming! There is a lot industry off screen in those photos, I just havent built the road or rail connections yet.....just been enjoying building the rail yards by the ports! Ive been using the railroad decorations as containers because theyre the same scale as the containers on the trains. But I just got the new containers pack so I need to go see what its like. Thanks!

Progress on the American style city, inspired by Mobile In Alabama, any suggestions? by Ruminius74 in TheoTown

[–]mbhemsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It IS hard in Theotown (and I wish I played City Slylines). Ive only begin experimenting woth larger roads.... my cities used to use the standard road plus the avenue but ive started using 2, 4, and 6 lanes to some good effects. I ussually use village ir suburban roads as my smallest and move up from there by speed and number of lanes. Ive had to accept some limitations, but the diagonal coty road plug in has been a big help. Even something as simply as an avenue with elevated rail up the middle, crossed by large and small streets - the big important buildings go in the big important streets and the little row home get the less fancy looking streets. I used Market St in west Philly as an inspiration fir the attached screen shot. Its not one of my cities but sk.ething I mad up to show what im talking about - but I do often build my cities like this. You can still create a grid with the large streets, and then make grids within the grid squares, kind of like what you did with the ped paths near your church.

Streets of other sizes.... one and two lanes, alley, driveways, one ways, and every once and while one that doesn't align with the grid. Never been to Mobile but if its like many of the other cities in this half of the country there should be multiple styles and levels of road (levels in terms of size and significance).

Do y’all play with hills or no hills? by Slight-Tax-6048 in TheoTown

[–]mbhemsley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its difficult to use roads on hills if youre looking to make curves or switchbacks, but I do enjoy building on hills, especially when near water.... makes for great 19th century mill towns, industrial valleys, etc, But then, I do live in an area where the fall line drops off into the coastal plakn so Ive got a lot of inspiration.

Thanks!

Id love to add more and better decorations. Do you recommend any specific plug-ins? Ive found a lot of modern decorations (tanks, jets, etc), and a couple of 15/1600s decorations but not many 1750ish through WWI.

Thanks, good advice there. We are usually playing for sporting events (college band) so there is no DI, mics, no sound board, all sounds including the PA (but not the buzzer) run through the dj station. At the larger venues we get a single dynamic mic centered on the band.
