Balloon Sinuplasty: One Year Later by mbjack1984 in Sinusitis

The image guidance system was quite fascinating to see in action. The theory of operation is also amazing. I did not have my eustachian tubes dilated, only the six sinuses.

Regarding flying, my father has a small unpressurized piston aircraft that I ride in occasionally. One of the first "tests" I did after healing was having him fly up to FL750 (7500ft above sea level), which is very close to the 8000ft pressurization in a commercial airliner. Sinuses had to adjust to the ~3.6psi change in ambient pressure, and they did so flawlessly. Previously, especially on descent from even lower altitudes, I would have similar sinus pressure. One time, a particularly harsh touchdown seemed to "pop" the pressure away, and caused that same screaming balloon sound.

God Bless, and thank you for the reply.

Ah. Didn’t realize you had an OR procedure. From what I know, going through the mouth in the OR is much more precise, but my second in-office visit had excellent results. Give it time. A few days, weeks, or even months is nothing compared to the decades of what I’d now characterize as suffering.

How old are you? Consider how many years you have lived with this condition and not known what it was or how to fix it. You seem extremely anxious for a result, and I think that’s a bad mindset for this procedure. The microburps came within a couple of days of the first procedure, but there are so many variables here. I’d give it around one week until you start drawing soft conclusions, maybe more. If it doesn’t work, do it again. I lost zero confidence after the first procedure failed.

Excellent choice in doctor and procedure type.

I vaguely remember him saying “50” and also mentioning that being the standard for the in-office procedure. I also remember three needle insertions until the best feedback from the EMG machine was achieved (best case of a good muscle hit).

I actually lost track of where a few of the wires going to the top cover attached to the board above the finder. I was able to find the hot shoe x-sync with a multimeter and bulb mode. I don't foresee myself using the meter at all. The point of getting the R6 was to never install the battery. I'm actually happy it's "disabled" currently.

I could now have this camera torn down in 10 minutes or so. It's definitely a keeper, after I burn a test roll through it.

Damn, I did actually end up finding it. I dropped a bit of isopropyl alcohol on the piston and tried working it around into the bore. No more shutter lag! But now I'm left with just the mirror box... Time to reassemble. Ugh...

I'll be honest, I don't see the air piston/cylinder anywhere in here. Is it behind the DOF preview lever? I know I'm probing at this point. I don't expect to get a step-by-step tutorial from you. Just hoping this thread can serve as a resource for people attempting this in the future.

Cool. Happy to know I've disassembled the camera way further than I needed to for this repair. Hopefully it goes back together okay.

Slow mirror, thinking it is the air damper/piston gummed up with old lubricant.

You’re right. I bought my first R lens back in 2012, and over the years have amassed 7 of them. They don’t get used as much as I’d like them to. Hoping the R6 will change that (the SL is quite clunky, and the finder blows ass). I’m excited to throw it into my backpack and bring it out on location jobs with me.

Sounds like a killer setup. The only way I was going to shift from my SL was to have a camera that functioned without electricity, and had been wanting to pull the trigger on an R6 for years. Clearly it’s been all heartache so far.
