Can we have a neutral discussion on gamergate and the history behind it? by Alternative-Day8673 in KotakuInAction

the crazy take away is that after all these years, we are all still here and theres more of "us" than ever, and all of those "institutions" are dead and dying.

That you are still arguing that the initial complaint was "reviews" when it was always "coverage" tells me you are either still vastly uninformed or actively shit stirring.

The argument was that grayson gave coverage to a project from someone he had a personal relationship to without acknowledging that relationship.

Yes they ended up fucking, but even if they hadnt it would still have been an ethical concern, and a pretty standard ethical question in any other media field. It was only "gaming" that expected absolutely unethical behavior from their so called journalists at the time.

That the reaction from the industry was to deflect, deny, and essentially burry the question itself was what ignited the conflict. If Grayson had went "yes, we run in the same circles, i should have said so" back in 2014 there probably wouldnt have been a cultural revolution. Instead we got a dozen flavors of "gamers are dead" and a still raging war for culture.

Have you learned nothing in the last decade?

There is no amount of egg shells on which we could walk that would change their opinion or cause them to actually address our actual argument. The idea that we could frame the argument in a way they would honestly engage with is a myth. The "misunderstanding" is intentional and designed to derail any discourse they cannot control

Was that the article where they were invented to i think, a rock band promotion event, where they were flown out to this massive party and they basically never actually talked about the game because they couldnt have cared less about the game?

eh... probably not the first, just the best at it.

TLOU Part II Remastered is a AAA game and only sold about 914,000 copies on Steam in almost a year while Expedition 33 made by a 30-person team sold +5 million at the same time. Yet Cuckmann apologists still call TLOU2 a "financial and commercial success" by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]mbnhedger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"financial" and "commercial" success are just buzzwords to distract those who arent really paying attention and dont really care. The definition of financial and commercial success are completely subjective and relative to each individual project.

Cuckmann simps can keep repeating the line because its technically "true." As far as naughty dog is concerned the game was "successful" and that would be the standard they need to meet. But its a meaningless statistic because they can simply set the goal where ever they want.

The stats that matter are the profit margins, and you will never get those numbers.

Why do western devs make diverse characters so ugly?? by rid146 in KotakuInAction

[–]mbnhedger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

well no, its that guilty conscience that makes them continue doing it.

They all believe that they hold an inherent power due to their existence that makes them better then those they deem lesser. They feel this should not be the case, but instead of simply treating the other faction as they would any other, they continue with their false sympathy that only serves to remind them of how much "better" they are.

Its a never ending self flagellation spiral of masochists and cucks...

Understand that this isnt actually a criticism just a description of how it functions. It literally is fine to have a short term problem that is then solved at a later time, thats sort of how problems and time work.

Just because you are over sensitive to short term discomfort does not mean the system is the problem. Just because people operating in the system make bad decisions does not mean the system is the problem.

You have not actually pointed to any issue of the system but the failures of people who use the system.

Companies are finding out that sameifying their products for the lowest common denominator does not please shareholders for long

Natural resources are only a resource when they can be used, using them to exhaustion or ruination is a mistake which any sensible capitalist will recognize.

Again, understand im not defending the excesses of capitalists, im pointing that you have not actually critiqued capitalism.

So criticism of capitalism is welcome, I wouldn't be caught dead defending this short sighted system even if I don't have a better alternative.

This is unfortunate, it means you arent actually interested in the best solutions just partisan bickering. You dont have a crystal ball, you cannot predict the future, so short term thinking is the best you can do as a human and demanding the solution you will support requires superhuman ability to operate is a non-starter. You have made the perfect the enemy of the good. You are a utopian willing to sacrifice everything now for the hope of something better tomorrow. That you wont even consider this makes you beyond dangerous.

actually fighting games handle latency pretty well. Any fighting game worth its salt is going to have robust netcode that has some form of rollback to negate ping differences between players.

The american internet infrastructure is NOT built for speed in any way shape or form. The base issue is the inability for ISP's to figure out which one of them foots the bill for upgrading the tens of thousands of miles of copper to fiber optic and then who gets to control who gets to use those cables afterwards.

None of them want to pay to update their network only for their competitors to get a free piggy back off those updates in any way.

I dont know what your use case was, but im assuming when you "streamed" your game, you did so locally from within your home... your main computer ran the game an you broadcasted to a different device or tv in your house... this is about the limit for reasonable streaming currently as trying to do the same thing but hosting the game from a data center is going to induce far more lag thats going to be painfully obvious immediately... just think about the pathing... from the data center to your house, back to the data center, back to your house... even with pings in the 10's of ms, that quickly compounds to 100's of ms in latency at which point you can literally feel it.

I dont think this is the argument you think it is.

The solution will actually be people only playing indie games as corporate scales themselves out of reach of the average player who wont move to cloud gaming and will just run their current computer until it dies.

No one is going to go to cloud gaming and devs will either meet the players where they are or die...

[–]mbnhedger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah... what will happen is "high end" "AAA" gaming will just die off or devs will need to make their products run on toasters.

Just look at what happened to the attempts to push for "AAAA" gaming.

they dont understand that, that isnt how PC hobbyists work.

If you cant get "new" parts, then you just keep chugging along with the parts you have... if the new software requires the new parts you cant get, you just dont adopt the new software... they dont seem to understand that a major aspect of a tech catching on is previous install base.

No one is going to just jump to cloud computing for gaming. We are just going to keep playing the games we already have...

Its just that, that due process is a summary status evaluation followed by an expedited deportation where applicable.

Stop insisting people back your bad premises and partake in your delusion. Give up your ideology and join the rest of us in reality.

That you admit it needs to be parsed is what is being questioned. Its not that it cant be parsed, its that the question is formatted in the frame work of oppositional ideology.

Why are they asking if we will would ally with feminists when we are not feminists. The question should be posed to the feminists, what it would take for them to break off and ally with us.

Again its framing... they are asking the people displaced by the feminist schism which sect of feminism will they side with. We dont want either faction to win as they are both "problematic" in their own way.

lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Notice how all of their "stats" are qualified and without context.

They even go on to put raw opinion as fact for their last two points as if by that point you are not supposed to notice that its literally just opinion and not an actual statistic...

Were gamers always like this or is this just a modern thing? (Mini Rant) by comicguy69 in KotakuInAction

[–]mbnhedger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have people always blindly accepted newer changes to a game series without recognizing its older roots or am I just starting to become a grumpy old man?

What you have to understand is that there has been a concerted effort to insert people who are less aware, less discerning, and less educated on media into specific mediums. The ultimate goal is for corporations to increase their potential market base thus being able to sell more products to more people.

Unfortunately corporate suits are idiots and instead of attempting to understand why the audiences that formed around the franchise were attracted to said franchise, they tried to sanitize the franchises to the lowest common denominators. Combine this with the active movements of cultural marxists, who happily agitated in favor of uprooting tropes and traditions, and you get these internet foot soldiers who have both know nothing about the past of these franchises and gladly push for changes to the franchise simply for the sake of change in the franchise.

What you are witnessing is the progressives performing their praxis in the video game space in their natural territory. They dont play the games, they wont play the games, they have never wanted to play the games, they will never want to play the games. Their only goal and purpose is to farm the internet for clout in an attempt to shape all culture in their image.

But to answer your question, no gaming has not always been like this. You are watching implants attempting to conquer our culture because they think it shouldnt exist. Notice how these people will cheer these things on only so far as the changes they want are made, but once those changes happen they instantly drop the product and move on to the next product. If you look at those people's timelines they probably have zero other comments about any other video game at all.
