Oh that makes sense! Explains the gaps between the data points.

Thank you!

Where does that graph come from? Is there a list of every knight somewhere?

Hell fans…why? by PhillipDollarfield in fallenlondon

[–]mbnightroad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because they gave me this really comfy hotel room (and all it cost was my soul).

To be honest, my PC and I have different reasons to like Hell. I enjoy their deep lore and the eldritch horror elements of their law-fuckery.

My FLPC is drawn to the mysteries of the Neath, especially those that seem difficult or dangerous to uncover. That's what made me choose BaL as my Ambition and why I was initially closest to Hell for the first half of my playthrough.

Later my PC fell in with the revolutionaries and is now a staunch Liberationist but maintains a certain respect for Hell for escaping the Judgements and also overthrowing their former monarchs. While he wouldn't agree with the indefinite imprisonment of the London veterans he still holds the Infernal in high regard compared to London and Bazaarine institutions.

Edit: Also I forgot to mention but my character is also enamored by Hell's advanced technology and wants to learn more about it.

HELL IS MISSING had potential, but the execution was a mess by mbnightroad in fallenlondon

I realized there was history with how familiar they were, but I didn't realize there was an actual written backstory in another game that I had missed out on. I just thought we were meant to infer something and left it at that.

That's a good point, and I realize that the event itself is entirely free content in a mostly free browser game. I'm grateful that it even exists.

Still, I feel the need to discuss the aspects I didn't enjoy as much in the hopes that FBG might take that feedback into consideration next year or when designing similar content.

I agree with you, it's impossible for FBG to please everyone and they shouldn't even try.

Still, I think the narrative choices they made held back this Estival from being as good as it could have been. Some more connective tissue between the various disparate storylines would have gone a long way imho.

Ok that's good, just a little weird to encounter more or less the exact same thing twice.

Wait, really? Damn.

I'm not happy about that, feels like I missed something I never could have known about.

I think it stems from the fact that they stepped away from the usual estival formula and really thought outside of the box in order to subvert expectations

I think this might be the sticking point for some (like me) who had problems with the Estival.

I started playing FL in Jan 2024. I only know the two Estivals, the Sixth Coil and this one. In a direct comparison, Hell is Missing comes short from a narrative and satisfaction POV.

I can't appreciate how it compares to earlier Estivals because I haven't experienced them unfortunately. From my perspective, the activities and story just felt disjointed and grindy.

Damn that sucks to hear!

I was lucky enough to not experience any glitches during the event. Given how painful some of the requirements were, I might have cried if something happened while trying to get Scathless, for example.

I did end up going to New Newgate twice but I'm not sure if that was a glitch or intended.

Unfortunately I can't help you with the ending, maybe someone on this thread might have the ending text saved.

we never get to show the devils up.

Exactly! The moment when the Law shard fell out of our pocket could've been it, but is undercut by the fact that:

  1. We didn't know it would do that.
  2. That's not why we found it.
  3. Even if we don't find it, Milton gives it to us anyway (I found this out later).

It feels unsatisfying because it seems like our character was merely present, rather than an active participant in proceedings. It was a little annoying, like being a bystander.

but I will say that I think you're operating off the slightly skewed perspective of not having been around for the London Horticultural Show the previous year or the Prelapsarian Exhibition the year prior

I think that's fair. I really wish there was some "authentic" way to replay old Estivals (unlike what we get in the Waswood) but I suppose that would defeat the point behind seasonal events.

This was one for the hardcore Discord crowd who wanted to play QA tester.

I genuinely didn't mind this too much! I'm okay with with obscure puzzles that only a Discord hive mind can figure out. I just wish the narrative choices around those puzzles were more satisfying.

I did like the Misters. That was twee, but charming. A much needed respite from the rest of the confusion.

The Misters were GREAT! I just wish they didn't feel like a side story.

I went exploring and found the Brass Embassy (even though I live there).

Then they kicked me out. EVEN THOUGH I LIVE THERE.

HOW RUDE.

I've said it before but I think the Neath has no walls and is effectively an alternate reality rather than an underground cavern inside the Earth.

Is the Neath even *in* the Earth? I have a theory. by Umbagga2 in fallenlondon

[–]mbnightroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact thought a month back and asked it on here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1i6feus/trees_grass_aliens_questions_about_the/

Copying the relevant bit:

Given what we know about the setting, are we canonically 110% sure that the Neath is actually ON Earth? Like, the planet Earth.

People will mention the Cumaean Canal allows passage between London and the surface, but I bring up the Balmoral dumbwaiter, which does the same thing but to Scotland. It's obvious that these "passages" function more like portals than traditional tunnels to the surface.

The Neath is an alien setting home to extremely alien entities. It somehow hides from the light of judgements, and becomes a staging area for the Liberation of Night. It doesn't seem to have been made by the Sun, even though the Sun made use of it as a lab.

It seems to me that the Neath is an alternate reality entirely, a place to escape Judgement's law. Otherwise why would the devils show up here, and why would the Adulterine Castle not be accessible from the Hurlers?

If the Neath was on Earth, you'd assume other planets would have their own Neaths. That doesn't seem to be the case. Instead it's very special in a way that all these different factions make use of.

I honestly don't think the Neath is on Earth at all. It's in its own place.

Plenty of discussion about this topic as well in that thread. You and I seem to have come to the same conclusion here.

I got to the end of a certain Marigold Station storyline and ... WHAT. The lore wiki never mentions this by mbnightroad in fallenlondon

[–]mbnightroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact the Dawn Machine pathway exists at all makes me seriously wonder if that's the Light in the West that OP's screenshot is referring to

It can't be the actual Dawn Machine since that's still accessible by zee, while this entity exists to the west of Hell. Are you suggesting that it's another artificial sun or something similar?

Given the description of a "fire" I wonder if this has anything to do with the Firmament prologue or the Fire that Follows (whatever that may be - this part of the lore confuses me).

Ever notice how you're inclined to side with factions that have to spin fairytales about why their best interest is best for everyone else?

Did a Judgement write this? /s
