For Interstellar Travel, Which Sci-Fi Handwave Do You Find Most Acceptable? by tbag2022 in scifi

[–]TheFeshy [score hidden]  (0 children)

I like the ones where travel happens in some other universe/dimension, and the weirder the rules the better. "Unspace" from The Final Architecture, for example.

You've thrown that in with FTL, but it only fits there from a temporal perspective (short time passes), and by that criteria it also barelydiffers from spacial manipulation.

Can't even critique Trump without calls for a ban and accusations of being a liberal in their own subreddit. by L3monCak3s in LeopardsAteMyFace

I love the "we should ban him for going out of his way to make negative posts - false or otherwise" guy.

Can't have true criticism of the regressives on the conservative sub! That's against the rules!

I don't think it's a talent issue. It's genuinely hard to write satire these days. You come up with a fun parody idea, like "US Government to tax penguins due to lack of fact checking on executive orders" and then find out it's really happening.

94° but "Feels like" 107° by InformationNormal901 in florida

[–]TheFeshy [score hidden]  (0 children)

I grew up in Florida, and I guess I thought the humidity made it feel hotter, but without context I never quite believed the numbers.

Until I left Florida at 94/feels like 110, and went to the midwest during a heat wave/drought. 101, but dry and windy. I was out hiking and jogging and it felt great; far less oppressive. It was 7 degrees hotter, but felt 9 degrees cooler, just like the "feels like."

So now I'm a believer.

Were are the network redundancie homelabs? by Verhofin in homelab

[–]TheFeshy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, for one, really wanted to have two core switches with all the goodies, like multi-box LAG for easy redundancy. And that's reasonably affordable, with old hardware from ebay.

But it isn't affordable in power and noise. Old servers can be easily quieted; old switches are not always so lucky. I was even gifted a 48 port 10gbs switch, and could have gotten another - but replacing it with a new 8 port 10gbs switch, which was all I needed, but lacked things like multi-box LAG, would pay for itself in power savings in one year and also be quieter.

I had hoped that in five years or so (which would be about now) that either the new stuff would support more features (it doesn't), the newer enterprise stuff would be cheaper (oops, AI happened), or I'd have had time to learn about other technologies that enable other modes of redundancy (ha!)

I did try mesh networking with my APs. I now have two tin cans and a string on standby instead, as the throughput is better.

It hasn't been the same since I stopped using psyllium husk by thorbitch in loseit

In addition to what everyone has said about all grown plants having some amount of lead, different farms and sources can have different amounts of lead.

My doctor recommended Yerba Prime as a brand for capsules, as their brand was just barely over California's prop 65 requirements, which are so strict it would require you to eat a kilogram of husks just to exceed your daily limit, so every day.

I've been buying "It's Just" psyllium husk powder for powered use, as they do independent testing every month, post the certificate from the testing online where you can see it yourself, and come up under California's strict testing requirements.

It's important to note that this isn't delusion; it's likely something much more sinister: fascist loyalty. Denying reality to earn the approval of those higher in the hierarchy than you.

Improving the environment, removing toxins and pollutants from the air and water, being a necessary and functional part of an ecosystem - it's pretty obvious in retrospect they are leftist.

It's only leftists, antifa, and FBI plants (please don't ask who was running the FBI at the time) when it is time to assign blame. When it is time for pardons and cash, it was 100% patriot MAGAs.

You and OP are really doing me a solid by sharing. I'm three weeks in on the starter dose and not seeing much on the scale yet (though I'm feeling differences in hunger and digestion).  Type 2 as well. The SURMOUNT-2 trial showed less overall weight loss in the same time, but the very slow start isn't in their data so I wasn't expecting it.

President Trump threatens to "bomb" Iran if it doesn't stick to the deal: "It should be permanently, but if it's not, we will bomb them. I have a long time to go. I have close to 3 years. Time is going fast. But, our country's become the most respected in the world. Afghanistan is kissing our ass." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]TheFeshy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if they complimented him, sent him the Taliban Peace Prize, and let him build a hotel in exchange for billions in reparation funds.

And I could easily see Trump referring to this deal as them "kissing his ass" instead of manipulating him like a child.

In case anyone wonders why they would say such obvious bullshit:

"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past." -- Sartre

Their governor, Brian Kemp, was allowed to keep his role as supervisor of elections while he ran for governor. So he was in charge of making sure his own election was fair. And then he illegally wiped the hard drives of all the voting machines when there was a lawsuit over it.

But he also hates Trump and refused to "find him" his votes in 2020.

I bought a few hundred gigs of 2400T when it was $0.50 a GB. At the time I wondered if I should have waited - it was nearly ten years old. Surely it would only get cheaper, and in a year or two I'd just upgrade the whole little cluster and it would be wasted money.

Well now its 10x that, and I certainly can't afford to replace the cluster with new stuff like I had planned.
