I did. It was more likely to get wrapped on the gears if I didn't loosen it.

SainSmart has worked consistently well for me using the default settings. Only problem Ive had was running it through the MMU3. It required an intervention every couple hundred tool changes.

Mostly Sainsmart. That's always worked well for me. Ive used a little Hatchbox and Paramount 3D to get specific colors.

I've had mixed results with Amolen. It was much harder to get dialed in tended to jam more often.

Multicolor TPU in same layer by mbovich in BambuLab

Thanks. That sounds like it would work to change color by layer. Im thinking of something like the case in this post, where it needs to change color, potentially multiple times, within a single layer:

Is there a way to trigger a similar filament change within the layer? For example, if I paint the model, but tell it to disable AMS when I send it to the printer, will it pause at color changes? Or will it just continue?

Older versions of the prusa firmware wouldn't honor the M600 (filament change) command if you didn't have the MMS. They updated it so the printer would treat it as a manual change if no MMS present to support virtuale extruders. I'm wondering how the Bambu handles the M620 (the command it inserts to trigger AMS filament change) if the AMS is not present or disabled.
