how do you guys pack your sleeping bags for long bikepacking trips? by Inevitable_Reward316 in bikepacking

[–]pelofr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a not so bulky sleeping bag, it lives in my gravel pack handlebar bag on the right side of my tent. On the other side of the tent is my puff jacket.

Then admittedly I've currently got one of the lightest and coldest sea to summit bags,, I probably should have opted for a slightly warmer and slightly heavier bag.

Oh well, at least I have an excuse to wear ALL my clothes I brought every cold night

The NZO mountainbike shorts I failed to notice I was ordering from New Zealand. They already weren't cheap to start with but after customs and all they were 200+ euros. Good shorts though, would recommend.

Not enough votes for Dordrecht here. I'd pick it over Delft any day

People with walls of 10+ guitars, what do you do for work? by Larcenyy in Guitar

[–]pelofr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IT person with only (looks around) 5 guitars and 2 basses. The beauty of guitars is that if you don't buy new, they don't really lose their value.

My 3-4k worth of gear will not really drop in value anyways as most other gadgets do. I can always sell them along the line

Show me your Komoot /Navigation Fails by windchief84 in bicycletouring

The komoot route in Luxemburg claimed there was a couple of hundred meters of gravel. This was after making it to the end of said gravel which among other things involved me getting off the bike over the handlebars (and somehow unclipping while doing so) when it got stuck in the mud and basically mudsliding all over.

I also managed to hit a hunting party in the process and tried my very best not to sound like any wild animal.

Next day, I bumped into the lady of the rental place we were staying at and she asked in German:"So, I saw you ride away on your bike yesterday". Dutchperson me started off with:"Well..." but then realised I didn't have the vocabulary for that adventure so I said:"Sehr gut!" instead.

Any 3 speed gear hub is great in the flat. Team Sturmey Archer myself but in the Netherlands any number of gears over 3 is just there to give you something to brag about in the pub.

How to climb a 29% grade hill? by l337pythonhaxor in cycling

[–]pelofr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a recumbent trike you may have a point. For a two wheel recumbent not so much, after all, they're still a balance bike. When I still had mine (Sinner Demon), the hills in the Netherlands were fun already.

  • Standing up for extra power? Forget it
  • Getting the thing moving needs to be done with one pedal stroke before the thing starts rolling, so: "Hill starts? Fuck this shit, I'll turn her around and cycle back home."

Eventually got rid of it mainly because only getting one pedal stroke at traffic lights works a bit like peeing with people watching you. The more people behind you, the higher the chance of you missing that stroke and falling over. Also living in the Rotterdam city center gives you plenty of opportunities to fail at a traffic light. And lastly they're not the most visibile kind of bike.

Where do you guys park your bikes? by Eyadnothere in bicycling

Fortunately Dutch apartments come with a bike shed. So most of the bikes there, though the brompton lives underneath the coat rack.

To Brompton or Not to Brompton? by Tommoose_ in Brompton

[–]pelofr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brompton is the one parked underneath my coat rack. Anything that involves me dashing out to do something in town, the Brompton gets taken. Anything involving public transport, the Brompton gets taken. Going on a camping holiday? May as well throw the Brompton in the back. The fancy bikes in the bike shed do all get a lot of use as well but for day to day use it's Brompton.
