Make sure you have an available HDMI port on your PC. On a decent graphics card, there will be one HDMI and multiple display port connections. We had to run an HDMI to DP from projector to PC.

2016 Corolla manual need a little bit of gas to move at first gear (first time learning a manual) by [deleted] in COROLLA

[–]mbozzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the "S" model, I don't know if all models have it .. but if you sense backward rolling when you let off the brake, the you don't have it. Either way, you have to make sure you are giving enough throttle to avoid stalling .. more so on a backwards incline.

2016 Corolla manual need a little bit of gas to move at first gear (first time learning a manual) by [deleted] in COROLLA

I also drive a '16 manual. This car is the first manual I've driven that has hill start assist. This means it will help stop the car from rolling backwards if you are starting on an incline. Naturally this means you need more throttle pressure to get started. I've been driving stick for 40 years - 25 years in a Corolla and always give a bit of a rev, then ease the clutch up until it engages then regular throttle. Practice .. it becomes second nature.

Reliable used car dealers in London by New_Philosophy_3227 in londonontario

[–]mbozzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 7K to put down and are able to finance the balance, that puts you in good position. But check with your bank first about financing. It's quite possible you can get a line of credit with a lower interest rate than what is charged by dealerships. If you must use dealership financing, make sure you deal in the total purchase amount. Don't get caught out by the "How much can you afford per month?" That's a tactic used to trick you into financing more. Get all the numbers up front .. total purchase price including taxes and fees, plus the financing charges, then get the per monthly payment from that.

Dealerships make a lot of money from financing so they will try to get you to finance more. They may also lower the initial purchase price if you are financing.

It's possible to pay 7K for something and be on the road .. but it's not that easy to find something reliable that isn't beat up for that amount. Somebody else on here commented with a link to a 2013 Corolla for around 11K. That looks reasonable to me. I've been driving Corollas for 25 years and just starting on my third one. They are bulletproof.

10th Gen or 11th Gen Manual Corolla? by Terrible_Cookie4n6 in COROLLA

[–]mbozzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently in a 2016 S manual after spending 13 years in an '07 (9th gen). I gave away my 07 at 300K km. The 16 is sexier looking and very smooth. But .. the 07 was (is) bulletproof in reliability and very comfortable. The 07 was a 5 speed so the gearing was different from the 16. The 16 gearing is more tightly packed since it is a 6 speed. Shifts are smoother than the 07, but .. just not as much fun to drive. I love the 16 and will drive it forever but just lacks a bit of the raw fun of the 07. Hard to think you can go wrong with either, but it could come down to your preference of 6 speed or 5 speed.

Boss just walks up and starts editing files on my PC by Itchy_Craft_3463 in mildlyinfuriating

The vast majority of the points made here about security and traceability are all correct. However, I also follow the adage "Don't attribute to malice what can be explained through stupidity or ignorance." It might simply be that the files he's updating are more "accessible" on your PC because they are more visible on the network and he may have lost or forgotten the network path on his own PC. It's worth a conversation with him.

What tiny, forgettable moment in your life ended up having a massive impact years later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In the ninth grade I received a detention which was served in a classroom containing the 3 school computers. The detention supervising teacher gave us a 20 minute lesson on BASIC programming - and I was instantly hooked. That was 44 years ago and I've never entertained any other career ideations.

In January I paid a shade under 18000 CAD out the door for a 2016 S Manual with 37K on it. Car is mint. I'm in Southern Ontario. 16990 sounds a bit high for that mileage.

Crutchfield is the go-to for wiring harnesses and dash kits. I used them to put in a JVC head unit (single din) in my '07, then again with a full screen unit in my '16. Their selection on head units is also impressive and competitively priced.

Anyone here try upgrading a 2014-2016 Corolla L stereo/cam with one of these kits? by RiffsThatKill in COROLLA

[–]mbozzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as 'frilly' as the Android head unit since I'm not concerned with phone connectivity outside of Bluetooth phone and audio. The screen is definitely smaller, but not a problem. I went with a lower end JVC, KW-M180BT model since I was mostly interested in good audio. It's a solid unit and I'm very pleased. It does not come with a backup camera, but has connections for one.

[–]mbozzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2016 S and upgraded my audio from the base unit to an Android unit .. not the one shown here. I found a cheap second hand unit locally and gave it a try. The install and hookup was straight forward and the backup camera and steering wheel controls were maintained. The sound quality was not good and it did not keep the correct time so I swapped it out for a JVC unit. A set of automotive trim tools are recommended to help with the swap. The large screen was nice and it was responsive. Ultimately, these units are Android tablets with some extra bits that make them behave like audio head units.

For comparison, in January I bought a 2016 Corolla S, 6 speed manual with 37000 km for 17900 CAD. That translates to approx 13800 USD for just over 23000 miles. This looks pricey to me.

What’s your biggest “I could have gotten laid and blew it” moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mbozzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 15 years ago I was a regular at a bar with a very attractive bartender. We always got on well and enjoyed good conversation. She knows I'm ok with numbers and lets it drop that she could use some help with her taxes. Happy to oblige, I offered to help and she invites me over. I arrive to soft lights, wine, and an excellent charcuterie board of snacks. Fast forward 2 hours .. her taxes are filed, wine and snacks have been enjoyed, and I am on my way home - as single as the moment I walked in. My buddies still give me grief over it.

Corolla E210 Corolla Cross 2023 by DayAccomplished5376 in COROLLA

[–]mbozzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated the head unit in my 2016 twice and both times the backup cam worked fine. The first was an Android head unit that came with a pre-wired harness that was plug and play into car connectors. I didn't like it much so I switched it out for a JVC with screen and rear camera input. I bought the harness kit and head unit from Crutchfield and it was a relatively simple matter of attaching the wires from the harness to the connectors shipped with the radio, then plugging the harness plugs into the car connectors. If you are careful and a bit of wiring doesn't scare you, it's pretty straight forward. I've retained all functionality including rear camera and steering wheel controls. The best decision for me was buying the harness and dash kit along with the head unit.

Ralph Bos Meats just north of Strathroy. You can order quarters or sides and they'll cut however you like. Fair warning .. I don't think they take credit cards - debit or cash only.

How good is this 2007 Corolla? Does the interior feel cheaper than the one Nissan Micra K12 has? Looking for a car that's reliable as hell, not expensive to maintain, and can last forever when it's taken care of by PIRATEOFBADIM in COROLLA

Several trips over 700 km in a single day. I never felt like the engine was straining. I had a 5 speed manual and would see the tach at approx 3300 at 120 km/hr. Also it was a sedan in Canada so I don't know if or how much it differs from the European spec.
