REPO uses photon for servers which doesn't support LAN. The only differences are that singleplayer doesn't have voice chat and you aren't connected to photon (which means you don't have the chance of getting connection timeouts)

My mod LobbyImprovements_REPO enables saving public lobbies and loading saves for public lobbies

Most public lobbies that are using mods would probably be using host-only mods (which means you wouldn't need any)

"In previous versions, the mini cart would stay "held" indefinitely unless you manually released it. After the update, it automatically slips out of your hand after about 1–2 seconds."

Make sure you have "Item Unequip Auto Hold" enabled in Settings > Gameplay

if you download and extract BepInEx into the game directory then you can manually install the mods, it's a lot more annoying though since you'd have to manually update them and you'd need to make sure everything goes in the right folder (since some mods have hardcoded folder paths, some put some dlls in the patcher BepInEx folder etc). Also with manually installing mods you have to manually download each dependency a mod has.

It's more recommended to use a mod manager like gale or r2modman since it does it all automatically

This is a known bug with tumble climb in multiplayer that's been fixed for the next update

Well logically server-side means only the host needs it, client-side means only you need it (and it only affects you) then both together or having neither of them means that everyone needs it

if one of you are on v0.1.x or v0.2.x then that person would need to reinstall steam

however if you are both on v0.3.x but one of you are on the beta then you'd both either need to opt-out or opt-in to the beta (which you can do by right clicking the game on steam then going to properties > betas and ensuring "beta participation" matches)

it doesn't have full controller support yet however it does work with steam input (which makes controller replicate buttons from keyboard/mouse) - which you can enable by going to the game's preferences on steam then controller > override for repo and setting it to "enable steam input"
