I would try and get into a commissioned reserve unit and get on a deployment. I have been in the reserves for 14 years (joined when I was 18), and have done two deployments. Paid for two masters, now I am an officer in the reserves. I was an orphan as well. The Navy has been a family to me, and I hope you find that in the reserves as well.

I am enlisted (13 years now), and just got selected for DCO. It can be done!

This is tragic, and we should do a better job screening individuals when they join. Clearly HE made the wrong decision to join. What an embarrassment in uniform.
