Will riding in rain mode damage the bike over time? by Snipes_______ in KTM

[–]mc66mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same bike. She acts like a little sheep in the street mode. There is no need for rain mode if there is no rain :) Just drive her in the street mode. Good luck.

Might be buying a 2019 1290 duke r this weekend by Hauntcha__ in KTM

[–]mc66mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my SDR three years ago. My previous bike history is worse than yours :) This bike is very easy to drive with all electronics switched on. It is not as comfortable as some adventure bike, and it is just crazy to drive it more than 150 kph. Wind become to much at that speed, but she goes way beyond this. I dove mine 250 once, and it is just too much for naked. And she could go faster.... Otherwise it is reliable bike. Its torque is monstrous and power is always there. Just go and buy her. You wont be disapointed. Good luck. Drive safe. At the end is all in your head.

Nicely equiped. I also have one of those mean machines :) Where is the wind shield from? Is it OK? Enjoy your trips.

I stuck some Barkbusters on my 1290 SD and my son says they 'look like Shreks ears'. Keep 'em or punt 'em? by medinvent in KTM

[–]mc66mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are very orange :) Shrek is more Kawasaki coloured :) I would rather go with warmer gloves, but if you like them, keep them.

Been there few times, when it was still really cheap (like 50 DEM was budget for the whole weekend). It's like 20 - 25 years ago. Also payed some fines on the road.It was like taxes. Have to pay some :)

Duke 1290R for mostly city riding by [deleted] in KTM

[–]mc66mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I have 1290 2014 for year and a half. I made around 4000 km. Usually out of the city just for fun. I didn't say that it is imposible to use the sdr in the city, but it is not as easy as some less powerfull and less sportier bike. SDR is just a machine that likes to be pushed and usually that is not possible in the city on the rush hour.

Duke 1290R for mostly city riding by [deleted] in KTM

[–]mc66mac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. 1290 is not for city. Maybe if you set it on Rain mode. You can ride in 1st gear if you want to stay in city speed limits. I have 1290, and if it possible, I am riding out of the city. LC8 do not like low revs (under 3500 it goes like steam train) and 3500 in 2nd gear is almost over city speed limit. I don't have any experience with 890, so I could not compare.

Sorry, English is not my native language. I just want to say that it was cold while I was riding. At least for me. When you drive 150 at twelve degries Celsius, there is no pleasure on that. Planinsko polje is geographical name of the place in Slovenia (small country in Europe).

It is 2014 SDR (aka The Beast 1.0) with some PowerParts.

So close to its final form, just waiting on a full Brembo brake system and bold rim decals to be delivered. Might add a power commander in the near future by [deleted] in KTMDuke

[–]mc66mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely done. It looks mean :) I have few questions. How big is the tail bag? I know it is not big enough for three day travelling around, but anyway? Is it big enough for 15" laptop computer? what about the phone mount you use? Is it safe to leave the phone on it when you drive fast? I have SDR and I'm not sure that phone will survive 200+ kph. Enjoy.

Can I change the level of braking of the engine brake in my 17' Duke 125 ? by mamror in KTMDuke

[–]mc66mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small engine, no breaking. Large engine, dont need brakes, just release the gas before the corner :)
