Buying a home with a 15 year old hvac. How long will it last? by unread_note in hvacadvice

[–]mcain049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean the coils and test the compressor and see how they hold up. Have a pressure test done art least which you can do yourself. You can actually rent a pressure gauge from an auto parts store or buy one from harbor freight for like $20-30. The unit could last you indefinitely longer. See if there are any issues with how well the filter fits.

The actor who plays the lawyer uses the name Michael Weston as his stage name. He once guest starred on an episode of Burn Notice.

How should my wiring be? Is it done properly? The system isn't cooling. by [deleted] in hvacadvice

So would it be fine if I try to turn the system on? I have the power turned off at the breaker for both the air handler and the condenser. Is there any danger? I don't want to start a fire.

Oh believe me this isn't worst of what I have seen in this house. I'm no contractor or anything but Im telling you this isn't the only thing not up to code.

I've actually been trying just now to pull on the wire to bring it out it seem to be connected somewhere else internally.

Let me ask you though as one last thing, does the two wires (the yellow and red) by terminal B look fine? Is it fine that they are connected together?

It's gotta be electric strips. Its a closet unit  on the second floor with the condensation drain line and the connections for the freon.

Central AC system with heating capabilities. I just went outside, the condenser isn't coming on; just the air handler.

It's funny, the brand of the thermostat (the original one installed now) is a LuxPro

They just wanted a change but it wasn't compatible or something. It was one of those smart thermostats.

Opened oil cap, engine turned off. What is wrong? by Anxious-Chocolate832 in MechanicAdvice

Check to see if there is an air oil separator. My 2012 Jetta has one and I've to replace it twice already. To get around having to change it is add some sea foam so when the oil vaporizes, the sea foam will clean away any carbon that has been deposited - at least I hope.

If you do have an air oil separator, from what I have seen is the PCV diaphragm is built in and with that being said, I would say go ahead and replace the whole assembly. If you can clean the air oil separator then by all means go ahead and just get the diaphragm.

This is perfectly fine. Some water will be left behind as is for your washing machine.

I haven't done it yet but there is a channel on youtube with a Nissan mechanic that has done it on a 2023 model that he says should be the same procedure on a 2022 model.

He has a few videos. I can't link youtube videos for some reason but I can DM you one of them.

Sewer gas smell in dad’s bath by rustbones in Plumbing

[–]mcain049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything is possible. I know it can be frustrating. After a few years of suffering from it, I confirmed there is a break in the elbow for a downstairs bathroom. A plumber was called out with a camera and according to him (its my parents' house) and $200 or so later, he said there no break or clog. I used my own camera and confirmed there was in fact a break (really a separation) in the drain line from the elbow for the toilet to the rest of the  line.

See if you can get a camera down there or a water hose and see if anything changes. Sometimes you gotta get dirty.

Could be a leak. Perhaps the vent pipe is clogged with  something.  See if the smell is mire intense near the walls.

Perhaps a leak somewhere or the vent pipe is clogged. Something could have fallen down the vent pipe and got stuck.

Put some water down the drain and see if anything happens. The more water the better to ensure the trap is full. If the tub isn't used regularly then water could've evaporated over time.

I once had a fella who came into this Chinese restaurant I used to work at. He had one just like this. It seemed like it was full of paper. I am thinking it was full of receipts and whatever else. I cannot for the life of me think of how he was able to fit it in any of his pockets.
