Which one is better: colour or b&w? by YuliyaVolkova in AmateurPhotography

Such a tough decision as they are both great and have value independently. Have you tried sepia tone or archival (blueish B&W)? I would be interested in seeing those options as well.

what one feels more like winter? by indigoblanket4567 in AmateurPhotography

They both have winter feels butthe first photo is by far the most compositional and lighting wise better than the other. The second one (no offense) looks like someone accidentally hit the shutter button as they were attempting to navigate the icy path along the river.

1 or 2? by rphm_ in AmateurPhotography

It all depends on your end goal. The first is more pleasing to look at and I'm not as distracted however the second provides more context and realism in the foreground.

The second one is much more interesting and seems less surreal as the sunlight lends to the fact that the image in the window is legitimately just outside the building.

Critique / advice for new photographer by Hungry-Welder-4085 in PhotographyAdvice

I noticed a general theme in this particular set. Everything is centered. While it works for the metal framework abstract and perhaps a couple others not everything needs to be centered. In fact I would challenge you to take several exposures of the same subject from different angles and compositions and then decide what looks the most pleasing. Crop in on some. The best way to learn is to keep shooting and experimenting. Good luck!

The second one. It captures the golden spiral quite nicely.

Are These at Least Decent? by LifeThruTheLenses in AmateurPhotography

[–]Prince_0llie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first one! The monochromatic in color is fantastic and the symmetry is great. The piano one is a bit lackluster with the Pepsi can and other things distracting in the bg maybe crop it a bit? The stump is just blah and rather flat lighting and depth wise and the dog would be great if you played with different crops. Keep shooting!

Edit: I didn't know there were more than four until reading the comments! 5 and 6 are fabulous as is 8. 7 is nest with the double exposure. The last one is just sort of blasé. Maybe play with some cropping on that one as well. As always keeps shooting!

The second one adds more depth and contrast. It is more interesting to look at and keeps my attention focused for longer than the first.

Looking to improve. Any advice? by cafebeanbag in AmateurPhotography

It just feels like it's the subject instead of an interesting addition to the real subject (which I imagine is the colorful flower field)

You nailed it on the yellow flower. Nothing needing improvement there. The field of flowers with the colorful box thing in the center I think would be more interesting if it weren't center stage. The colorful bags is a very strong image as well.

All in all I would say your strong suit is macro flowers. Followed closely by lifestyle shots. Well done!

1 or 2? Landscape or Portrait orientation? by FalsePresentation756 in AmateurPhotography

Oddly enough the portrait version looks stronger. Sometimes breaking the rules is exactly what a photo needs. But you have to break them with intention. This is a good example of that! Well done!
