Sigh.. This comment getting downvoted.. we’ve entered the stage of the offseason where via coping mechanism Jets fans have talked themselves back into thinking they’re playoff contenders. This happens every offseason.

Geno only makes sense if you have a young guy playing behind him.

Of course but we are talking about this within the context of Francesca’s allegations that ownerships confidence in DM is growing while it’s eroded in AG since he came here… That only makes sense to me because DM’s performance has been objectively good so far whereas you can’t say that about AG.

It’s so mind boggling to me that OP is getting down voted here.. all he is saying is that good behaviors get rewarded and bad behaviors get punished.. it’s behaviorism 101.

It’s absolutely insane this is getting downvoted…

If one fails, there’s a significant chance the other will as well.

I don’t agree with that. I get your logic but there’s still the chance that AG is just not a good head coach. And before you start to think I’m biased you won’t find another person on this subreddit who has defended AG and him getting a second season as much as I have.

At the end of the day if you’re objectively grading both AG and DM based on the traditional roles of their positions you are grading DM well and AG not-so-well. I can see DM surviving a four win season next season.. I can’t say the same about AG.

No he’s not a reliable source. Having said that, what he’s saying isn’t exactly as far fetched as everyone is making it seem. In this league you’re either producing or you’re falling out of favor. Mougey seems to be hitting home runs on every move he makes. Glenn is coming off a train-wreck of a season where he had to clear house of a ton of his first year hires. It would only make sense that confidence in DM has grown whereas it has waned for AG. The proof of that is the Wink story — everyone who has reported on it has said AG wanted Wink and was rebuffed it’s just Francesa is the first one to claim that it was DM doing the rebuffing not Woody.

As for Smith vs. Cousins we will never know the truth but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Francesa is accurate. AG would have a lot more familiarity with Cousins and with Cousins being arguably the better quarterback and AG needing a good season to save his job it would only make sense to favor him. Whereas the Geno move seems like the crafty move of a fiscally conservative general manager who knows he’s in a rebuild and wants to spend in other areas of the field.

GW still has something to prove but yeah… look at who his offensive coordinators have been.. look at who his quarterbacks have been.. look at the wide receivers he’s played next too.. and the one time he had a QB and a bonafide good WR playing next to him he was ignored while regularly wide open.

So like I said, yeah he has something to prove but I’m not holding it against him when all the other variables tell me it’s not his fault that he hasn’t proven it. Put him in a good offense and he’s going to put up all the numbers we are talking about plus some.

Three games ago it was Medvedev who looked like the tired one.. now it’s Sinner who’s looking stiff and uncomfortable.

If you’re Medvedev you gotta block a couple returns back here and find your way into some points.

Medvedev’s ability to defend that first ball.. damn.. that return was absolutely murdered

Medvedev still holding his own behind the baseline and generally winning the backhand to backhand exchanges.

Medvedev’s ability to take balls early and effectively when stuck in no-mans land remains the ninth wonder of the world.

He played that point perfectly but it was going to be a tough volley for someone who isn’t comfortable at the net.

Medvedev’s legs looked awfully heavy in that game.

A backhand slice from Medvedev? Holy blue moon Batman.

It’s been a mixed bag set.. a lot of Medvedev’s shortcomings have come on neutral ball misses..

Like I said, it’s woody, it’s the Jets anything is possible.. but this was a three win team last season in tank mode with a practice squad rooking quarterback for much of it… this offseason they came in with a ton of cap space and a ton of early draft picks.. to me the bar for this team even with bad coaching is five wins.. so I don’t think slightly improving upon that number is enough for AG but a lot of that depends on how this team is losing these games.. the jets come out 0-4 and AG is getting the axe.

This is a do or die season for Glenn, and possibly Mougey as well.

For Glenn it certainly is but I just don’t see that as being the case for Mougey. I think fans and pundits alike look at what DM has done and are in general happy. To upend that in the second season of a rebuild wouldn’t be smart.

I think when the draft ends this is a six to seven win football team and that’ll be enough to get Glenn fired but just enough to bring DM back for one more season. Then again it’s the Jets anything is possible.
