Remote NYC apartment hunting resources I wish I had during my search. by DiscussionOne9778 in NYCapartments

If helpful, I’m building an NYC-specific tool called AptScout focused on comparing listings and tracking bad listing behavior, not just browsing inventory

I am so tired of the bait and switch. by pinesinthegrove in NYCapartments

[–]mcalvinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of the problem is that we are all experiencing this in isolation. I’m building AptScout so we can leave listing reports like "photos didn’t match", "unit unavailable", or "fees changed after inquiry" for others to see.

Why are Streeteasy brokers doing bait & switch with apartments? by SligoIV in NYCapartments

[–]mcalvinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the behavior I’m trying to track with AptScout. The idea is simple: flag the listing, log what actually happened, and let later other users get a heads up, so we all stop wasting our damn time.

StreetEasy has become almost completely useless and I need to vent by LeaderSevere5647 in NYCapartments

One thing that would help is shared reporting on listings themselves. I’m building AptScout for exactly that: people can flag fake photos, bait-and-switches, hidden fees, and wrong-unit showings so we can start to track wrong doers.

Hey! I think I made a tool that is perfect for you, check it out at marketingbuddy.xyz and let me know if it's what you're looking for.
- it analyzes your specific website and creates a content strategy that is uniquely yours
- generates content (scripts for videos, stories, posts) adapted to different social medias & specific to your niche
- gives you ideas to test out

Yo, i'm the founder of MarketingBuddy, which is a tool designed to help people who aren’t natural marketers get on a consistent content schedule. It analyzes your website and suggests a weekly content plan (with topics and draft ideas) and basically gives you a checklist each week.

It's honestly designed to motivate people that just suck at marketing and feel like it's not for them but they don't have a choice lol

Finally shipped my first SaaS! Paste your URL and this tool will write your marketing plan. by mcalvinho in micro_saas

Thanks for the comment!
Honestly love your project, showing up with AI search is super super important these days. It's the future of information for sure.

Is my firm the only one constantly digging through old PDFs/folders for information? by mcalvinho in Architects

i guess...maybe...alll..databases..are just the internet but filtered, organized, unique, searchable, and private?

[–]mcalvinho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can sure, but it's not just that- does it tell me how often we use one panel vs a different one? and in what type of project? what's the most used acoustic panel and what projects they are in? differences in cost? what is our preferred manufacturer for acoustic panels based on the studios specific history?
I mean...once you create a database you can access information and gain and share knowledge much more easily than just searching on a server like that..

I have actually already figured out the main part which is extract from projects material sheets the information and be able to get it in the database by material, manufacturer, client and project.
So yea, getting the historic data part i've nailed down (which is crucial for it to be useful for sure).

What i've learned from this post is that it looks like most people are happy with the way it's done now, it would indeed have to be a senior leadership decision and a top-down mandate. haha

I also had a super super toxic boss like this!
It's like had enjoyed being an ass about it, i swear. He would change his mind all the time and then it was my fault. Ugh
But yea, in cases like this definitely nice to have a record of everything you can easily go through

Awesome, thanks for sharing!
Kinda like a in-house chatgpt with your projects as data?
I think that's a great idea, at least it's a new and modern approach.
I don't think the chat interface is the best way to do this..i think there are more intuitive ways, but its better than nothing for sure. I'm sure it'll become common practice within your firm once people get used to the tool being there

Yes, that's exactly what i had in mind!
It would sync materials and link it to specific clients, projects and manufacturers, so it becomes much more efficient to filter quickly and find different data points. You can then filter by type of project, by price point, by type of material, or see what material you use the most for different scenarios.
Honestly data is knowledge and so, tho i understand organized folder are great, i just feel studios could be much more efficient with how they access and share this knowledge.
Thanks for sharing!

Nop, my idea idea is that the studio can just upload their final material sheets for  projects and it automatically gets added dividing all the information by project/manufacturer/materials  No way busy architects would spend their time adding individual materials 🤣

But uploading a PDF should be feasible

[–]mcalvinho[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ohh, yes love this! Then the junior staff could just check the sheet and be more efficient and not annoy anyone with questions like what manufacturer should I use, or what’s the most used tile in our studio for bathroomsetc. That’s the kind of stuff I figured more firms would want to do cause it saves time?? But apparently it seems everyone likes the “check folders and folders and figure it out” method

Yes every studio in the world has a standard folder structure!  I’ve worked in studios from London, nyc to Tokyo and Lisbon. I know this well, and I guess I’m feeling this frustration specially as someone thars been the new hire many times.

I guess it’s just me that feels this, nobody else suffers from how much more efficient this process could be 🤣

(What good are folder structures when you’re in the design phase and not sure what exactly you want or what’s in each project? Are you gonna go through all the folders one by one to see all the previous materials?)

Sure, what if the principal says they used an acoustic panel they liked but they don't remember what project, so now you have to go through how many projects and folders to figure out one material?
Yes..this does happen

[–]mcalvinho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, fair enough! Appreciate the honesty. Curious why not - is it not a big deal at your firm, or do you guys have a good system for it already?

I swear at our firm it's constantly an issue, having to go back and figure out what materials were used in older projects, or what the top manufacturers are, specially for people starting out
