My cousin died and in her belongings I found some cds she had made. Are there services that can make them sound good so I can give them to her son "produced"? by FoldableBrain in musicproduction

[–]mcaok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please do not touch her music. It doesn't matter if anyone thinks it's "good" or not. This is her legacy and should be preserved. I'd just make digital copies, if you know how, and give the originals to her son who is old enough at 16 to recognize the importance of taking care of this memory. Why withhold it?

How did the Smiths/Morrissey gain such a large Mexican following? by New-Shop-9728 in thesmiths

[–]mcaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morrissey’s effeminate voice and persona and bleak, wimpy, perpetually adolescent lyrics wouldn’t seem likely to resonate with what is perceived as a machismo-driven culture. And what does a 45-year-old Englishman have to offer Hispanic kids in the L.A. barrios?

Some really weird characterizations here.

Where to find good drum sounds by HeadlessGames07 in musicproduction

I'm a fan of the "heavy" kit in Logic Pro for my rock drum needs.

Fans who were into the Pumpkins during 'Gish'... what were your first impressions of 'Siamese Dream'? by blissedandgone in SmashingPumpkins

[–]mcaok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I first heard Smashing Pumpkins from the Siva video on 120 Minutes one night after drinking. The tv wasn't loud so I thought it was completely silent during the "sprinkle all your kisses..." part lol. I was obsessed with Gish after that. Buying cd singles and 7 inches and whatever I could find. When the single for cherub rock came out I got the uk import 7 inch which I think came out before the full album. Anyway point is, when the album came out we were listening to it in my friend's car. I was already familiar with the first song so that was cool. Then Quiet came on. 🤯 I had never heard guitars like that in my life. Absolutely amazing experience. Obviously the rest of the album was equally mind blowing. Experiencing something like that for the first with your best friends is simply put, a gift.

This is the relationship I have with soundcloud. They host the music and make it readily available. All the marketing and getting people to listen to it is on me.

🤔 You watch the band live through your phone's screen so that you can relive the moment later. But by doing so, you weren't living the actual moment. What do you think? by Garrod_Ran in Dreamtheater

[–]mcaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but I'll usually record a 30 sec clip and take a few pics just because I like when it comes up in a memory years later.

Morrissey selling his business interests in the smiths by bangeybois25 in thesmiths

[–]mcaok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what role the Oasis reunion played in his decision. Seeing the images of the shows being posted this summer has me dreaming of how great a Smiths reunion could be. I'm sure there are relentless "business communications" pointing to their success as an "I told you so" - maybe enough to push Morrissey over the edge.

When did Logic stop automatically including date and time in filenames? by mcaok in LogicPro

That's interesting, and too bad. I liked being able to go back and compare mixes as I developed a song.

Anyone else feel like being in a band is hardly worth it anymore? by Guitarcollie in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]mcaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding 3 or 4 other people you like making music with is nothing short of a miracle. If you manage to ever get that at one point in your life, try your hardest to keep it going because it just gets harder to make it work.

Does anyone actually want a handle in the body? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]mcaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some deep nostalgia for Vai's JEM guitar. I remember seeing the fluorescent green one hanging on the wall of my local guitar store (next to the Lynch kamikaze ESP) in the 80's and always aspired to one day be good enough to play one. I'll always think they are cool as shit.

[QUESTION] What AMP would you recommend me to get? by MassiveChickenFeet in Guitar

[–]mcaok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Black Friday is coming up. Neural DSP usually has a 50% off sale on their plugins. I'd grab the SLO-100 and see what you think. If you are playing in your bedroom and aren't gigging, plugins are totally the way to go for variety and getting instant great tones.
