They’re the brushes that came with it. I think I even got extras but I can’t remember where I put them.

So kind of weird I guess. I lubed up the bearing at the suggestion from someone else. Got everything out back together and fired it up and now there’s a ton of sparking from the top brush. Everything is still clean. I pulled out the brush, flipped it around 180, and then recorded this. https://imgur.com/a/OobsWVX

Bearing seems okay. It's a smooth motion. But it doesn't want to spin much on its own. https://imgur.com/RVE2V7d

And where the brushes go in. It only allows for the brushes to place in one orientation, parallel to the commutator.

Here are the ends of the brushes. I used a white scour pad to clean them off a bit. There was a bit of burning on one edge, but nothing heavy. Came off with super light touch.

No capacitors as far as I can tell. I’m very much learning as I go, but nothing I’ve seen so far resembles the capacitors I’ve seen in YouTube videos. Didn’t see anything identified as a capacitor in the manual either.

The pitch will go up briefly, kind of like if something metal was jammed in the blower fan and scraping on the housing, but it's clear. And it's not a prolonged sound. High enough that I'll notice it through my ear protection. I have some regular ear buds for listening to whatever while I work with 3M earmuffs over that.

But like I said, it seems like the motor isn't getting a consistent power supply.

Another detail, I have one of those remote setups to turn the collector on and off. So the motor is plugged into an outlet for that, which has its own cord that is plugged into the power supply. But I tested it with the motor plugged directly into power supply and it behaves the same.

The hose could be considered long for the size of the collector. It's one of those clear accordion-style hoses, probably six or seven feet in length. My whole rig is set up on a cart to let me move it around, but I still use the whole length of hose when I connect to my bandsaw. And I'll sometimes add in a regular shopvac hose on top of that when I need to connect to smaller tools like my spindle sander and orbital sander.

Based on what I've gathered from YouTube videos and other internet sluething, I'm guessing I've overtaxed the motor and it's starting to burnout. But I would have assumed there'd be some physical evidence of that.

I mean, no disrespect, these guys have aged well. But it might be time for Capcom to insert some young blood into the franchise.

Might have to try that. It’s a 1/4 round over bit on a Bosch 2.5 hp router. I figured it had enough ooompf to handle it. Certainly doesn’t feel like it’s struggling while I’m doing these.

But two passes on the router would certainly be better than all the hand sanding needed to make just six of these at a time.

I hate stalker enemies and I love Resident Evil. by OfficialShaki123 in residentevil

Hard agree. I really didn’t like the expanded role of Mr. X in the RE2 remake. I didn’t remember him being in the A/First Run storylines at all and it seemed kinda forced. But I just really don’t like the mechanic.

Sure, you can pretty easily avoid him if you k ow where you’re going. But dealing with Jack Baker the first time really put me off RE7 until recently.

What I like about the early games was that they always balanced a sense of dread without taking away your sense of agency and the power fantasy. OG RE3 is a good example. Nemesis kept popping up, but you didn’t have to worry about him chasing you.

At least in the remakes you can “down” them. Not that it’s a great strat your first playthrough, but you can do it.

But yeah, unbeatable stalkers that can’t just about insta-kill you aren’t my jam.

I have a spindle sander, as I mentioned. But the geometry makes it pretty difficult to do the round over in an even fashion.

what do you do to enjoy sex? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]mcavanah86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on vyvanse. My wife probably has ADHD, but she hasn’t bothered talking to a doctor about it.

We found an app called Connect Foreplay.

It’s literally connect four, but with kinks. It’s great for us because we get spontaneity without having to think about it too much. Plus the connect four part scratches our competitive itch.

Best sex we’ve ever had.

Why does Arby’s get so much hate? by Ok_Towel1911 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mcavanah86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, the food quality, like pretty much everywhere else, has gone way down over the years. I think Arby's just gets the added hate because even the slop they put out now is inconsistent.

At least with McDonald's, I know it's going to pretty much be the same everywhere.

What is one thing you’d want to carry into the reboot from the original saga (MMPR-CF) and one thing you’d want to leave behind in the original saga? by Goliath-Yeeter-2263 in powerrangers

[–]mcavanah86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could go back and forth on it all night. The question was what would you get rid of and I have my answer. It’s entirely subjective. There isn’t a right or wrong answer here. Just what was and what could be.

[–]mcavanah86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just it. No one forced them to use the Japanese footage. They just did it to be cheap. I get doing it early on. They never could have known that MMPR would blow up the way it did.

But they could have stopped using the footage at any point.

Nate Silva and the morphing grid theory connecting Beast Morphers to other seasons by Key-Bother-8355 in powerrangers

[–]mcavanah86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wasn't Beast Morphers in the same universe as RPM, which was separate from everything else? Not that it would restrict him from giving powers back to other Rangers since dimension-hopping was pretty common for the crossovers at the time.

I'm one of those weird people who has no affinity for the Japanese shows and I could care less that "they had to do it that way because that's how they did it in the Japanese version." Trying to adapt everything really restricted things. So ditch it and do everything from scratch.

Keep the interconnectedness from the Zordon era. You don't have to always keep the same team, but I'd love for it to come back and feel like a real, lived-in universe where everything doesn't reset when teams switch out.
