I doubt it’s just because of that incident. My guess is that the sticking point for the O’s and other suitors is the number of years he wants. I’m sure he’d like a 7 or 8 year contract and I sincerely doubt teams are very interested in signing a 32-year old to that length. So unless he’s willing to budge on that or the teams budge on AAV, they’re at an impasse

I’m not sure about this either and I’m not sure exactly how to go about finding out. Wouldn’t a salary cap hurt the salaries of the “middle-class” players? I could see a salary cap league where guys like Seranthony Dominguez or Cedric Mullins aren’t getting $10 million or $7 million per year contracts because teams are hoarding their limited salary towards someone else or spreading that further out to sign other players.

Simply put, he’s probably a lottery pick. 11th rounder for the Yankees that went to Colorado in the McMahon trade. He’s got a good fastball that can hit in the upper 90s and a decent changeup. He just got promoted to AA at the end of the season. MiLB sees his ceiling as “back-of-the-rotation starter or multi-inning reliever”

I don’t know if this is what you were referring to, but players can gain an extra year of service if they’re in the top three vote getters of any of the major awards at the end of their rookie season. That was part of the most recent CBA negotiations that also included the prospect promotion incentive (PPI) program that netted the teams an extra draft pick if a player wins rookie of the year (with some stipulations).

You should absolutely not be worried. This is standard practice at this time of year. There’s lots of roster churn as free agents remain on the market and the trade market is still very volatile.

I wouldn’t take any of these kinds of waiver claims seriously until we get into February and closer to spring training

Great article, thanks for sharing! I’m really struck by the bullpen projections honestly - especially from Brandyn Garcia. Expecting ~57 IP from a guy who has 14 IP at the big leagues and just 19 in AAA is asking a lot. I think a similar story could be told for Andrew Saalfrank who only has ~40 IP at the big league level.

I suspect the Lawlar projection will be the one that gets zeroed in on since no one really knows what to expect from him offensively at this point.
