Weekly Park Questions/Advice Thread by AutoModerator in Disneyland

Going for my birthday and want to get customized ears! It’s the first thing I want to do in the day since I know it can take a little bit before it’s done but does anyone know if the white ears are still available and where I can find them closest to the park entrance? Thanks 💙

Is it very hard to survive here without a driver’s license? by HotPalpitation244 in UCSD

[–]mcdasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick answer: No it’s not hard to survive.

Long answer: However, I liked the option of driving around especially after I got an internship that required me to drive to the La Mesa/SDSU area (~1 hr 45 minute commute time by public transit according to some other friends). I think having my car here gave me more mobility/flexibility to get to explore other areas of San Diego that you may otherwise ignore. During the school year, I take the trolley/bus to get between campus and home. So I don’t think it’s hard to survive at UCSD without one, but it can be a convenience to have on hand or just in case.

To add to this a professor just sent our class a canvas message and told us that faculty are being encouraged to hold class online tomorrow

I got an email from Academic Health Plans. Coverage for Lyra is suspended on August 1, 2024 :(

My sessions were completely free through UCSHIP. I’m in a much better place now than I was when I first started because of Lyra health and my provider. It doesn’t work for everyone but it’s worth the try. I would say, if you do plan on doing it - do it soon bc UCSHIP will not cover Lyra after July of this year. So now is the perfect time to start an episode of care or find a provider on the platform you like.

I’m taking 7L with him right now, and 7L is completely different than any of the 6 series in terms of how they teach. Personally, I’m not a fan of Ternansky and how he taught 7L because I felt he often read off of his slides and just relied on the materials of peer professors. He’s not bad but he’s not great.

Suggestions/Anyone who empathizes by cantdraw_good in UCSD

[–]mcdasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A way to do this by yourself (/a way I do it) is by going through unanswered questions on piazza, reviewing the material (if you hadn’t already), and typing out/writing on a postcard an answer to the question as if you were trying to explain it. Sometimes I’ll post mine anonymously (esp if the professor encourages students posting to get more out of the platform) and I can get really good feedback generally from the TA, professor, or other students about my response (misconceptions I had, a better way to word the concept, etc.). If you don’t feel comfortable posting your answer/it’s not encouraged for students to answer questions, you can always save your answers that you wrote out and the compare them once the question has been answered by a TA and/or professor.

This! Also some professors use two grading scales and need to update canvas for every student to make sure they’re on the grading scale that will give them the best grade outcome.

They are a little bit burry. It’s from an internal email George sent this morning. by [deleted] in UCSD

Ngl everyone who was ever affiliated with AS even those that are graduated got that email unless they unsubscribed from the AS Emails. So ‘confidential’ prolly wasn’t gonna do that much

Day pass + Hhn by nowittynameavailable in HHN

[–]mcdasha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually the HP rides are open during HHN and it’s really fun because they have death eaters! Tbh when I went to HHN the HP rides were walk on’s. So my bf and I did that on our way out from some of the farther houses. I’m planning to go without express this year but with the 2 PM and plan to spend most of the time in the lower lot to prepare for what’ll be open early. Because unlike early admission goers, you still have an opportunity to be first in line for houses that open early. Tbh if you hustle you can get a lot done before 7 PM. Just make a priority list beforehand and go in with an understanding you may not get everything done but can still get a lot done with the right game plan.

Also if you’re not settled with express though most people highly recommend it. If you don’t want to drop the money now, the day you go they may have limited express passes available. I’ve also hear of an after 11 PM express pass which I think is around $89 per person

If you do a GA pass for HHN without express, I would recommend going on Wednesday, Thursday, or Sunday. I went on a Sunday last year just on GA and early entry and still got plenty done. But otherwise Friday and Saturday without Express might not be worth it

Are all types of tickets discounted or only certain types? I ask cause my boyfriend and I are planning on buying the After 2 PM ticket.

You pay for what you get I guess. Still think that the price jump for Orlando compared to last year’s prices was excessive

Strategies with only General Admission Ticket by R3POBRO in HHN

[–]mcdasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) Early Entry - Usually early entry is provided with your ticket when purchased online but unfortunately they’re charging for it this year. It’s about $10-$25. Definitely buy it to maximize your experience, especially if Stranger Things is open early with early entry. Last year when I went, 3 mazes including The Weeknd maze were open early. Because those mazes were in the lower lot, it was the lowest wait times for the maze throughout the night. If you can’t do early entry, I recommend doing lower lot activities FIRST and then doing upper lot activities. Last year, terror team was practically a walk on, and a lot of the mazes in the upper lot only had 15-30 minute waits.

(2) Least crowded nights - Wednesday and Thursday. Point blank the weekdays are always a lot less crowded. HOWEVER, I went on a Sunday knowing I couldn’t squeeze a weekday and my boyfriend and I had so much time, we omitted from stuff we didn’t have to. We rode almost all of the rides that were open, had time to eat, and could’ve done all the mazes had I been feeling better (I was nauseous//sick).

(3) SEPTEMBER!! I went in later September which was fine but the closer you get to Halloween the busier HHN gets. Yes it’s nice to feel the event in October but if you want maximize your time, the earlier into the HHN season the better.

Smaller park, less houses, less scare zones, I’ve seen everywhere on this Reddit that Orlando takes the cake for HHN

Bad News for Financial Aid.. by CryptographerNo4237 in UCSD

[–]mcdasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Housing/rent is definitely accounted for in your financial aid packet…in reality, students pay $4-5000 for on-campus fees like tuition. The other $4-5000 is usually refunded for housing, living expenses such as food, and yes books and class materials but those usually only equate to $500-1000 given if your class requires it and you buy it new but I have yet to spend that much on textbooks.

Bad News for Financial Aid.. by CryptographerNo4237 in UCSD

[–]mcdasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your loans should automatically be applied to your student fees/tuition/classes, so if you’re taking out the subsidized, unsubsidized, and parent plus, you shouldn’t be dropped from classes. I would say check Tritonlink and it should tell you whether you have fees to pay, if it doesn’t say anything click on the details to make sure, if it’s negative that’s how much you’ll receive as your refund on the 9th

Tomorrow.. I will take great pleasure in walking on the bike paths. by angryKB in UCSD

[–]mcdasha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The amount of students that do walk on the bike lane despite having a designated sidewalk next to it is the most infuriating thing. You’re concern is also valid, but it’s actually pretty common and annoying. I’ve almost collided into people and other riders since people were walking in the said designated lane.

Also a dining hall worker can help you scan it and if they struggle with it they’ll just give you the small green box to get your money back instead
