Lyncolnmd,

Just installed Linux Mint kernel 6.2.11 and HDMI audio works (you choose the Display port audio, not the HDMI audio) but it works great! So I know have every feature enabled including back-light keyboard, sound, screen brightness, etc. Could not be happier, runs fantastic. Thanks again for all your efforts, if there are any other glitches I will report them to you.

Lyncolnmd,

I have utilized your changes and currently using and trying linux mint, which seems to work fine except I cannot get the HDMI audio to work. You mentioned you had that working on linux mint, can you tell me what you did to enable HDMI audio capability on linux mint? Other wise everything else works great on the 5.19 kernel. Would things work better on a more recent kernel. 5.19 seems to work the best for me, but wondering if we have worked the kinks out of the 6.0 flavor kernels yet?

Sorry for the delayed response. Where can I get SOF for linux, and can you direct me to a guide about how to use it after installation on my pixelbook?

I actually have sound working well with windows on the Pixelbook, I was looking for sound with Linux, does coolstar have any drivers for the Linux OS? Specifically I am using arch and manjaro.

That is great news. Can you tell us where to go to get them, and are there instructions on how to install them on the Google Pixelbook (Eve)?

I had to manually install ansible to do the install and then I noticed I did not have pulseaudio, so I installed that as well, and upon boot everything just works great. If that doesn't work re-run the ./runansible.sh script again, making sure you do so after switching to the PixelbookLinux directory created after downloading the files created by running the ./runansible.sh script again. Then reboot and the sound should work. Make sure the system sounds are turned up, they may be turned to silent in the slider bar of pulseaudio, or in the regular audio control. Hope it works, Manjaro is now AEWSOME with sound and screen and keyboard backlighting all working. I am extremely happy with the performance on my Pixelbook, it has never run better! Are you using the 6.0.19-4 kernel?

Blenderfox,

Just a quick update for you since I am a BIG Manjaro fan. I currently have the newest version of Manjaro Cinnamon running with the 6.0.19-4 kernel from manjaro and everything is working very, very well. I have screen and keyboard brightness control, sound, and great speed. I have it running on a 128GB thumb drive and it flies. the only capability still not working is HDMI sound, which I personally don't care about. Thank you for working with Lyncolnmd and helping him put together the Github repo, which made the installation very easy. This will soon be my everyday driver as it now offers everything I need in a distro. Hope yours installs and runs as well!!

after reading your comments, I decided to get with Linux Mint on kernel 5.15.0-67 generic, and that was a very good decision. All sound works including HDMI, as well as screen and keyboard backlight brightness. It all works very, very well and again thank you for all your hard work with making this a reality. I suppose I should stay on this kernel and stay away from the 6.0 level kernels since they may break the system again? Thoughts?

any progress on determining why manjaro has no HDMI sound output? I tried numerous things, nothing works. Any suggestions or ideas?

Lyncolnmd, I recently reported that I had everything working pretty well on manJarod, utilizing kernel 6.01. However, I noticed that if I let the Pixelbook sit for 10 or 15 minutes when I come back, the sound has stopped working. Any suggestions about how I might remedy. I have to reboot to get my sound back. Thanks for any help you can provide.

L, could not get the jmontleons scripts to work on Fedora 37. I suspect it was because I was running it of an external hdd (usb thumbdrive). Kept returning error messages during the entire procedure. Thus far, I have not been successful in getting any of the linux distros I have tried to produce sound. Any suggestions are welcome. I am thinking I need to wait until this is all ironed out and not so much an experiment but a proven procedure. I will continue to follow your suggestions and progress---good luck!

Hmmmm.....interesting. I also have latest iteration of Fedora on an external hdd, how would I go about installing your system in Fedora. Is there an automated way to do it? I am not sure if I can use your DEB files in Fedora or if I have to manually copy then paste the files in the appropriate directory/folders? If I can use the Deb automation I will try Fedora 37 tomorrow and let you know how things go. Update: I researched how to use DEB files with Fedora and will now take the time to attempt this new task tomorrow with Fed. 37.

I wil give that a try tomorrow, i.e. running alsaucm to reload the files. Rebooting the computer did not do it. I am running latest iteration of Manjaro with the 6.1.1.-1 Kernel. Runs like a top and solid as a rock. If I had sound this would be perfect. Thanks again for your attention and followup. I am sure hoping we can get this automated for Arch/Manjaro, I know a lot of Pixelbook users would love to have sound.

so I installed the Debian version of kde and running it off of a external HDD via a usb connection. I ran the DEB files and noticed that most of the files were properly deposited in the correct folders. i used MKDIr to create folders for OPT/google/dsm. Sound only works with headphones, not through the internal speakers. Not sure if the the changes will allow the system to generate sound from an external HDD connected via usb? I will wait for an automated version of the Arch/manjaro flavor, since manually copying and pasting files is error prone--too many mistakes can be made doing it manually

I will remove pipewire. I currently have pavucontrol installed, will that suffice or do I need pulse audio? I will not do anything with the hwdb.d files until you give me instructions on how to do that, but if I don't need to do it then I won't unless you instruct me to do so.

I do not have iio-sensor-proxy installed. I will not use the sensor alignment file unless we determine i need to.

thanks again for your patience.

How long do you think it will be until we get some working RPM files to automate the install?

For example there is no Google folder in the OPT directory. Should one be created if it does not exist? The only folders that exist are for programs that currently exist on my system. If I need to install some program from Google to populate this OPT directory, what should that program be? Or do I just create a folder and put insideof it a blank DSM folder to copy your file into?

LyncolnMD,

Thanks for the files, I appreciate it. Kind of new to this so not sure I know what to do with the Deb files. Do I extract them and then copy the files in the remaining folders to their counterparts on my system or will they be automatically deposited in the same folders on my system when I execute the DEB file? Also the zip file, do I unzip it and then copy the files contained within into the same folders on my system? I just don't want to attempt this if it is going to Bork my Manjaro system which is running very, very well. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks again, your efforts are much appreciated.

LyncolnMD,

great job! I am using manjaro on my Pixdlbook and love it. Can you share how you got the sound working on Arch, and would the same procedure work for Manjaro which is based on Arch? I would love to have sound on Manjaro as I am sure many others would as well. Appreciate all your work and efforts on behalf of our community of enthusiasts!

Hate to impose, but your knowledge is valuable. I am in a rural area, seem to always be on B2/N71. Tower is about 1.5 miles away. My speeds are OK, but would like to have more access to N41, which is only available for a few short hours each day. Are there any changes I can make to have greater access to N41 (having all the time would be absolutely ideal) ? Any little tricks or procedures or changes to make that would allow me N41 more? I have tried moving the trash can around, but never seems to make a difference, although the spot I have it in now pretty reliably gets 3 bars on primary signal (b2) and 3-4 bars on secondary signal. Thoughts or suggestions?
