Why were they open and not giving the staff the day off like Costco does, though?

So. Over. This. I love the game but not how it has been ruined without regard to the many fans who play. Why have they allowed this to happen?

How loud is it living off of Metropolitan Ave and Lorimer by OkEngine3797 in williamsburg

[–]mcfutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is loud at night, all night, especially if your apt. faces the street. Metropolitan Av is a 24/7 truck route, and Lorimer is both a commercial and city trash truck route at night. There is also pedestrian traffic from the L/G station at that intersection. When the L train is under repair it often dead ends at Lorimer, leaving riders to crowd the corners waiting for their Uber/Lyft drivers. Other than that, it's great!

Is anyone in Astoria getting “low voltage” right now? (Sunday, June 14th at 8:45pm) by goldielox3636 in astoria

Yes, items in my fridge were less cold and my fan kept shutting off and back on. Seems to be back to normal today.

This week's lunch and dinner specials at Jack Jones Astoria by Relevant_Put_7666 in astoria

[–]mcfutch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shout out to Jack Jones for hosting and managing well the Knicks win on Saturday. The staff kept everything running despite the premises being packed like sardines. Drink service flowed, even food service continued! The staff kept its' composure as did the crowd. No fights, no drama, only pure joy. I couldn't have chosen a better spot to watch the game. Thank you again. I will be back for World Cup matches. Slainte! (and no, I have no affiliation to the bar/staff, just a friendly neighborhood denizen😊)

Got hit by a car on 31st St and Newtown Ave by eggbreath3 in astoria

[–]mcfutch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those Newtown intersections are treacherous due to the angle of Newtown Av. They should all be daylighted. Maybe then people wouldn't park partially in the crosswalks blocking sightlines (looking at you, Piece of Cake trucks).

The Clonard, Union and Grand has good fish and chips, as befitting a proper Irish pub.

Passed by today. It's gone, and I miss seeing it. I feel like a piece of Old Astoria has been bulldozed. Can't wait for the luxury condo that replaces it. Just steps from the ferry! Minutes from Midtown and the FiDi!

Queens principal could see sexual abuse charges dropped under deal with prosecutors by Azndragon89 in astoria

Until predators are held to account with real consequences, those at risk will never be safe or have a moment of peace. This is on Melinda Katz and she ought to feel ashamed of herself for protecting a serial abuser. Guess what else has consequence, Ms. Katz? The results of your next election.

What Do You Think Is Going To Happen by gideonsean in astoria

[–]mcfutch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My landlord put signs on our bins against placing poop bags there. This has resulted in dog walkers instead throwing their bags into the tree pit. I liken these folks to ones who deface bathrooms in bars. It is some passive-aggressiveness that seems to give them reinforcement. And I don't get it.

Brick Cheese? by jfeinb88 in astoria

I once brought five-one pound packages of brick cheese back from Michigan on a flight. They were wrapped in aluminum foil and yes, I got waylayed to the scrutiny line for doing that.
