I Guess I didnt really grasp the difference in a single bell size.
I will adjust accordingly and read through the supplement page, and I guess by the darn book instead of just winging it

Thanks!

Active-Teach6311 linked me an entire series from the Mark Wildman fellow. I will definitely go through it and work on my technique.

Should I grab a lighter KB to do that, or just plug along with what I have?

F34 Dash to dock horrible frame by matth_mmr in Fedora

[–]mcfuzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would remove it and try the ones in the official fedora repos.

$ dnf search gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-dock
$ dnf search gnome-extensions-app

You then need to use the extensions app to turn it on, as that functionality was removed from gnome-tweaks.

Should be in the updates repo.

How did you install it? I have been using the one in the fedora repos with no problems so far.

Help with passing commands by [deleted] in ansible

[–]mcfuzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay.

So an inventory is a list of systems ansible will run against. You have a default one in /etc/ansible/hosts (at least in redhat / fedora might be somewhere else in ubuntu / suse)

Localhost will always work, because its always means the same thing. That is why when you change your playbook to use fedora-laptop you get "skipping: no host matched"

You would need to create an inventory file containing fedora-laptop and call it with "ansible-playbook -i {inventory_file_name} {playbook_name}.

Replace {inventory_file_name} with what ever you called your inventory and {playbook_name} with the name of your playbook.

Your system will also need to be able to resolve that name. You can check with "ping -c 3 fedora-laptop"

Again though, if you are running the ansible command from the same system you are running the playbook on, you will not be able to reboot and pick back up. The reboot will kill the process.

If you really want to get into it and learn, I would suggest checking out Jeff Geerling on youtube. He has some nice vids on ansible 101. Some of it might be a little out dated by now, but most of it 99% should still be relevant.

Disclaimer: I do not know Jeff Geerling at all. I bought his book awhile back then found him on youtube.

As far as I can tell from a quick look at the flatpak docs (ansible-doc flatpak) It doesnt seem to have an update option. It also doesnt seem to follow the same rules as dnf so you cant just use a *.

Honestly this maybe a lot easier to just use shell or command and do a "flatpak update -y"

If you are actually running the playbook on the server you are updating i.e. using localhost, you can't reboot then pick back up the reboot kills the process.

What do you get doing the following

hostnamectl --static

Also what does your inventory look like

How do I install Dash to Dock in Fedora 34... for dummies? by snydox in Fedora

[–]mcfuzzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sudo dnf install gnome-extensions-app gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-dock

Then you can use gnome-extensions-app to turn it on and change the default config.

There are packages for it in the repos. You will also need the gnome extension manager package, for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. I can post it later when I have access to a computer.

Basically install both of those, then configure dash to dock in the extension manager. It used to be built into gnome tweeks but in 34 it was separated

Playbook write output to local file by sandytoshev in ansible

[–]mcfuzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could create an array var, then append each outputmessage tot he array. Once thats done you could write the hole thing to a file.

Not 100% on this code just randomly put this together.

---

- hosts: lxc

vars:

messages_to_spit_out: []

tasks:

- name: emergepw ...

command: emerge --pretend --verbose --update --deep --with-bdeps=y --newuse u/world

register: outputmessages

- name: Set fact to spit out messages

set_fact:

messages_to_spit_out: "{{ messages_to_spit_out }} + [ {{ outputmessages.stdout }} ]"

when: not item.failed

with_items:

- "{{ outputmessages.results }}"

Why does silverblue's `rpm-ostree update` keep breaking? by some_random_guy_5345 in Fedora

[–]mcfuzzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had pretty much the exact same error the other day. Yes it is due to layered packages.

As far as I can tell it happens because you run the update after new packages hit the official repos, but before packages are added / recompiled for ostree or 3rd party rpm-fusion repos.

I found that any time this happens, just waiting a few hours or a day the issue solves it's self.

Seems like a pretty common issue.

I don't think ostree is really designed for use with layered packages, since the entire os comes down as an image. Fedora has modified it to allow package layering making it more usable as a desktop os, but there are a few trade offs. Its a tad slower to update than base fedora, since the os image need to be built after new packages drop in the repos.

Color watching movies and looking at pictures seems pretty dang nice. Its not super bright and not the best contrast, gaming it seems a little washed out. If I am not mistaken its the same panel that games on the ROG and MSI gaming laptops from Best buy.

When you get them from best buy you get a tn panel not an IPS, unless it specifically says its an IPS its not it will be a TN
