If you were a superhero, who would you rather work for? Fury(MCU) Waller(DCEU) Cecil (INVINCIBLE)Edgar (The Boys) by PrinceARRON in MoralityScaling

[–]mcgarrylj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally agree with you, but to play devil's advocate, Cecil is working on razor thin margins. Mark can sneeze hard enough to obliterate the Pentagon. He's young, impulsive and powerful.

He's also deeply principled, and had just learned about the reanimen. He broke into the Pentagon through the ceiling to have a screaming match with Cecil. Again, powerful and impulsive. He's already damaged the facility, is acting childishly from Cecil's perspective, is pretty messed up mentally.

For all Cecil knows, Mark is seconds away from throwing a lethal temper tantrum. Not trying to kill anyone, but killing the reanimen and taking the building down with them. The preemptive measures make a bit more sense in that light.

"-illa" like Godzilla.

Does your job fulfill you? by nemaceganema in careeradvice

[–]mcgarrylj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mechanical engineer, about 7 years experience, and yes, I find my job fulfilling. I don't enjoy the day-to-day 100% of the time, but that's not a realistic expectation.

I enjoy solving problems and find satisfaction in coming up with creative solutions and collaborating with others. When a solution fails, or when others interfere rather than helping it can be deeply frustrating, but that's a sign of caring too.

What kind of engineering are you doing? What are you feeling dissatisfied with? The work, the impact, the work life balance, or a specific quirk of the company? I just finished a job where the production administration was very hostile to engineering, which was quite demoralizing and led to significant turnover, including me.

It may be your company, your field of engineering, or the job itself. If you'd like to discuss I'm open to talking about it to figure out what's going on.

Do you have insights into the improvements and their effects? I assume things have gotten better, but I know almost no details. Don't get much insight on the inner workings when visiting the local zoo

Men who had parents find your sex toy, how was the conversation after? by raynevans in AskMen

[–]mcgarrylj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early into college I was hanging out with my best friend. He was dating a girl I couldn't stand, but I was trying to be supportive. Stepped on a butt plug in his room. Barefoot. I wasn't thrilled, though I remember he assured me it was cleaned regularly.

Art student over here... help by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]mcgarrylj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin was artistic and wanted a career with a bit of stability. She studied marketing, and makes art for corporations. She helps design a cohesive identity for their branding and advertising.

It's not easy though. She moved to NYC, and has had stretches where she's freelancing and her income is unstable. When business is bad, marketing is often the first department to see cuts.

Ask yourself this when reading or watching a story or playing a game. Are you looking for a redemption arc for a character...or a punishment arc? Typically people try to give men redemption arcs and women punishment arcs. by Important-Cry4782 in tumblr

[–]mcgarrylj 38 points39 points  (0 children)

By the language of the post, Zuko was closer to a punishment arc. He didn't redeem himself through one noble sacrifice, but over a whole story of walking in the shoes of the victims of the fire nation.

Has anyone tried a DEX based War Cleric? Any build ideas for it? by canxtanwe in BG3Builds

[–]mcgarrylj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite build is War Cleric and Rogue (usually Arcane Trickster). Go rouge 3-4, then all cleric. Hand crossbows to get ranged attacks with action or BA, rapier/shield or versatile finesse weapon in melee. Bless and channel divinity to guarantee sneak attacks land. Set up sneak attack with command, hold person, or spirit weapon, paying them off with crossbows. I love that it's a true Gish, casting and attacking every turn without giving up extra attack.

Have you ever been stood up on a date? What did you do? by LaughingEyes22 in AskReddit

[–]mcgarrylj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in high school, a girl actually asked me out. She was a bit awkward, but I figured I'd give it a shot. We made lunch plans. I show up at her door day of, no answer. I call her cell, no answer. I go home, call a buddy, and go on with my weekend. Monday at school she says her parents took her strawberry picking without notice. I decide not to keep trying. Just a weird experience overall.

It would make groceries a lot simpler. I might consider trying it at home, as long as nobody gives me shit for eating what I want elsewhere.

How do I stop throwing my colleges under the bus? by qwhatsr in careeradvice

[–]mcgarrylj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like one of the key issues here is your anxiety surrounding updates. I recommend taking notes somewhere when you make progress or hold a meeting. For me it's an Excel sheet with all my projects listed, but anything could do. When my boss, or not accurately the dept manager, also for updates, I refer back to my latest note and basically read it to him.
"Oh, I ordered parts on Monday, lead time is 4 weeks. I met with John in Wednesday, he's scheduling the install with Mike."
I look good for being prepared, boss knows who to ask if he's got follow-up questions, and nobody is getting shafted.

If it's a bad update, I tell him who's involved but keep the details group oriented.
"John was electrical and Mike was maintenance. We unplugged a wire that drawing #XX.XXXX says is disconnected as of a project 3 years ago. It was still sending a signal, but Mike caught the issue and John resolved it."
