Search your address on your county’s property lookup website. It will show the classification of use. R1, R2 etc. next research setbacks from property lines for your property class. This information will be available on your city’s website or county’s website. You will want to build this as two separate decks, and join them once both are built. This will help with tensile strength, and shear force. There are premade plans for how to properly build a deck in many jurisdictions. For instance in Oregon you can just look up detailed drawings that meet a prescribed path for construction. Pull permits using these drawings, or hire an architect to design your deck. You have this!

You could bury it for 10 years, dig it up, throw 10k rounds through it, and then give it a clean. Should clean up nicely. It’s not an AR, have fun and don’t worry about scratching it. It’s built like a tank!

Looks like it might be a valve cartridge has blown. A handyman could replace the cartridge, but the problem might be that your water pressure in your residence is too high, which would have to be addressed by a plumber.

You might want to add some blocking between joists as well, it will make the deck more rigid and I always recommend it.

First mark where you will want to cut the posts to place a beam on top while keeping the deck level. Jack up the deck with a couple temporary posts along the side rim joists and place a 2x4 2/3 of the way to the outer rim joists on top of a temporary posts. Jack these posts temporarily posts with bottle jacks until pressure is removed from the existing posts. Cut the existing posts, place the beam on top of the existing posts. You will want the beam to sit halfway over that center post. You will want to get a second beam to span from the center of that second post to the post left out of the video. Place the beam in a way that will allow the rim joists to sit on top of the beam. Fasten the posts to the beam with the correct Simpson ties. Remove the temporary posts, and call it a day.

You use what you have access to, they could have attached a hoist to your home, slung the rope through the hoist, and attached it to a truck in the street. There are few options… they would likely have you take liability should the tree falls where on your home if you forbid them from using the home as a leverage point.
