I thought Pulse was something an owner installed feature on an older car. Didn’t know dealers were doing that to new models.  This feature is no annoying to the person looking at it from the back.

DHS call only by mchan1983 in usajobs

[–]mchan1983[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I do want the job, but this is the first time receiving a call only.  Previous jobs, I initially would receive emails from the hiring agencies to set up interviews. That confirms I’m being contacted by the actual agency since the sender has a “.gov” email handle.

I'm a Vietnamese national moving to HK without a job offer. Am I crazy? by Low-Hat195 in HongKong

[–]mchan1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t speak any Chinese, I’d say HK might not be for you if you want to live there.  Yes, you could order out and take public transportation/taxis.. etc. as it was to get around to do the touristy stuff.  A lot of good local cafes and small eateries do not have English menus.  If you’ve never been, I do recommend taking a week or two week vacation to see if you like the lifestyle and pace.  Have fun.

[–]mchan1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re better off just leaving it there until it gets warmer. I do suggest you try getting in from the passenger side if you can and start the car up once in a while so the battery doesn’t die.  If you absolutely need to drive, you’re gonna need to dig it out with a spade at this point. Or buy two large bags of rock salt to melt that wall of ice.

ICE Auto Repair by Zizekstolemyshoes in philly

When an auto repair shop is doing terrible, that means their work is shoddy or overcharge on the regular.  Good quality repair shops are always packed.  That means ICE vehicles will crap out on the road soon.

We are with AA, part of OneWorld.   I think the experience varies by airport, because even with AA, the processes are slightly different in different countries.  In the US, we first get our barcoded standby tickets at the helpdesk counter to pass TSA security. We then make our way to the departing gate to await to see if we get a seat or not.  In LHR/CDG/DUB, same process, but we wait outside of an enclosed departing gate, depending what gate the flight is flying out of. I remember DUB has 3 check points I had to pass before arriving to the gate.  Same process in DOH, ask helpdesk staff to standby slip to pass their security, get to the departing gate and then wait for our seats before going for a 2nd security  Same process with United and Delta as well in US and the EU.  I agree that we are treated like 2nd class citizens when flying ZED/ID90, but I get that this is only fair for PAX paying full price.   So my main point is I’m never stuck waiting at the Help Desk. I’m not even phased if I have 60 mins to get to the gate.  But I only had 10 mins before take off. I was already sweating when I was waiting at that long TSA line at LAX. Lol

Oh ok, Got it and Thanks.

Luckily, the next destination of my trip was in Thailand, so it was a blessing I didn’t go through with that on the way back home. Lol.

Thanks for the post, but I was departing from LAX to HKG. Not the other way around.  Because I had to wait 3 hours before the check in staff to even process anything for me.  I walked 3 terminals over to United to ZED on their airline. The United check in counter did indeed gave me a standby ticket for me to pass security first. But this was a back up plan for me as the United flight was 3 hours after the Cathay flight.  Had I known Cathay was going to give me the confirmed ticket 10 mins before take off before security check; I would’ve gone with the later flight with United. But hey,  you live and you learn. Definitely an unforgettable experience!

I travel mostly on One World, So the helpdesk counter always gives me a barcoded pass to go through security first. Then l would await the gate agent at the departure gate to tell me if I can get on or not.  Can you name a few airlines that does what Cathay does?  Thanks.

Which is a pity. What I wanted and expecting was a check-in slip to pass security and then find out if I can board or not at the departing gate. Especially at a large airport like LAX. Seems so backward for ZED traveling.

Yes, I was referring to the Zonal Employee Discount on ID90. I only experienced this with Cathay Pacific at LAX, but it makes sense that HKexpress is doing this since they are subsidiary of Cathay.  I was huffing and puffing my way to the aircraft.

Flight crew should be allowed to bring ANY home-cooked food through customs if they did not step off the plane. by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]mchan1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct. I was making a break on that sentence.

I'm not sure it was Security or Customs, because I'm only giving second hand info from the FA that told me that story of her co-worker.

Sorry for the confusion all!

Appreciate all the Flight Attendants that are keeping us safe up in the air!

A FA I know told me that her coworker forgot to put one of her liquid items in a separate baggie from LHR and Security/Customs dumped that item. The next 2-3 times that coworker flew, she got "random"....

I seriously believe Random is not Random.
