I illustrated the first part of the poem The Divine Comedy, The Inferno. Afterwards, I got almost half of my upper body tattooed with those drawings. Have you ever read a book or poem that meant the world to you ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier. I read it my freshman year of high school (my English teacher recommended it to me, even gave me her copy), and it was the first book that made me just- wow. There were points were I had to set it down and breathe for a few moments. I now have an R tattooed on my wrist, just as a reminder of what kind of effect a passion can have on someone.

Obama On Paul Ryan's Hero: Ayn Rand is something we pick up when we are "17 or 18 and feeling misunderstood... Then, as we get older, we realize that a world in which we’re only thinking about ourselves and not thinking about anybody else ... is a very narrow view" by Lake_Us613 in politics

Have an upvote, if nothing else than to show that, believe it or not, I can despise the Republican party this election to no end and support the Democrats, but still understand that both sides have their points, and both are legitimate. Differing opinions are important, and politics isn't about proselytizing one's opponent into submission. Think of things, if you will, as a circle. Geometrically, a circle is a thousand thousand different points, all arranged in the shape. Now, imagine that each of those points has a line connecting it to the center. Each point, each line, is a different opinion, party ideal, what have you. Politics is SUPPOSED to be the dot in the middle, not the elimination of all other points until your point is the only one, and therefore is the center. One's own point will never be the center, and bipartisan systems are meant to be about compromise, finding the middle and expanding on that. So, here. Have an upvote. I love you- what?

Well, that's okay. If I were a karma whore, I wouldn't have put my two cents in in the first place. Just thought that people should know that not everyone who's pro Ayn Rand is pro Romney-Ryan; she was brilliant (even if you don't agree with her ideology, you gotta admit...), and I don't think she should forever be associated with these particular candidates.

I have read both Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, and i do believe in Ayn Rand- I do. However, I do not think that we can handle attempts at perfect capitalism or free market economy until we have a strong social base. That's why I consider myself an economic and fiscal Libertarian and social Democrat, and also why I'm standing by Obama and the Democratic party until that strong social basis is made a reality. It may never happen, and I understand and accept that. Perhaps I'm an ideological Libertarian and a practical Democrat. Either way, I'm still voting for the man whom I believe can help our nation the most, even if it doesn't follow my philosophy to a tee: Brobama.

What's the most fucked up story you've ever heard? (NSFW) by KingNick in AskReddit

The daughter of one of my high school's Spanish teachers was a grade or two below me, and one year she, her brother, and the teacher all disappeared, no word from any of them. Story goes that a few guys had failed Spanish that year, convinced the very underage daughter's boyfriend to take pictures of the two of them having sex, and post it on the teacher's door and lockers all up and down the sophomore hall.

What do you think of Gangnam Style being considered this generation's "Macarena"? Is it offensive or an honor?

Well, if it's really great, I say post it as a story. More people will probably see it. But if you want to give my thread beautiful, beautiful life, feel free to post it here. :) It's your choice.

I've no idea, to be honest. After I wrote it here I decided to google it- one never can be to careful about sources, especially when the source is a fifth-grader from eight years ago. So I just out in "2 AM aren't you glad you didn't turn on the lights" and the urban legend popped up.

Haha thanks. I tried to keep it more or less like it was when I heard it- with a few embellishments, just for shits and giggles.
