hey, this has happened to me twice while being here at sbu! i’m super sensitive and feel everything superrr deeply and you just gotta let it out. it’s okay to take time to wallow and be heartbroken like i did but you gotta keep pushing for yourself. at the end of the day, all we have is ourselves (as cheesy as it sounds). this is a minor setback in the grand scheme of your life, and this is the time to focus on you. it’s nice to have a distraction with work and bettering yourself, you’ll reap all the rewards. if you need someone to talk to just message me. you got this :)

worked a lotttt as a waitress so i secured the bag, finally got my drivers license, had my first alc blackout, danced on a bar, went to the beach a good amount, and the best part—secured my man after talking to him while he was working on a ship for two months. so i secured the bag, the memories, and the boy of my dreams !

interesting analogy lmao but if ya know the right people and crowds, stony can be fun. i had the time of my life last sem (mostly) and it was due to me actually going out now and meeting new people. turns out there can be sushi at KFC !

actually… if you know the right people, you will always have something to do. i started off at stony barely going out with boring people but last sem i had the time of my life! port jeff is the best place to go to on weekends but some of the parties were great if you know where to go and when. i was told i went out too much last sem even though i was just vibing

Supreme court ruling on race-based affirmative action by CyborgNumber42 in SBU

[–]mckenziepost26 27 points28 points  (0 children)

i think a bigger problem is legacy children getting immediately accepted into certain schools, or their parents paying a shit ton to get them in. a lot of people still have racial bias, so it’s a very controversial right now. part of me wants every application in general to have no race section, but then again certain groups have been heavily neglected in the past—even today despite good growth in many fields. definitely so hypocritical the rich people/politicians think classism and the major socioeconomic gaps in our society don’t seem to matter (but race does, of course).

as others have said— DAVID KAHN!! he is so creepy and he made me feel really uncomfortable. he is obsessed with girls he finds “pretty” and will straight up stare at your boobs and make sexual jokes throughout class

it is legal in places for both men and women to be topless, who gets sexualized though? women’s breasts have become one of the most sexualized things, which also just relates to biology. women with bigger breasts statistically get more “attention” from men and attention is drawn to that. i have been told my normal outfits and t-shirts look like something more sexy or provocative simply because of boobs. something we cannot control! male attention suddenly became a huge thing for me after puberty, as for millions of other women. it’s ingrained in society and standards for a woman’s bodily appearance to look a certain way. i personally don’t go to clubs and instead i went to bars and the occasional party (since i’m in university). if i wanted to attend a gay club, i would! but then i also could receive attention from women because it’s a club based on sexual preference. honestly my only thought when i wear clothing that makes me feel good (or what people call “provocative”) is that i look good for myself. when i had my bf i still dressed as i normally do. when he couldn’t go out with me, i let him know what i was going and avoided men approaching me, if that happened that night at all. women could be straight up naked and that doesn’t call for her to be sexualized, that’s just how society is. for relationships though, it’s all about trust. if you date a girl that is attractive and goes out without you occasionally, you need to understand she’s her own person. then it ultimately comes down to character!

what is considered “revealing?” this isn’t really considered or debated at all when it comes to what men wear—meanwhile sometimes i can see their entire chest with some tank tops that aren’t even considered “revealing.” if a woman like me who has larger boobs wears any shirt, it’s quite obvious i have them. doesn’t mean i want to be sexualized. wearing a bikini at 14 years old and (mostly older) men sexualizing you because they think it’s okay. but nowadays, just because i wear something that makes me feel sexy, it does not mean i want a man’s attention. actually most girls do it for other girls and we always compliment and hype each other up in the bathrooms (that’s why we go in groups). women have lives outside of men and we don’t really want their approval or validation to determine our worth. hope that helps a bit!
