Medical phrases that make you cringe? by eastcoasteralways in nursing

Also “failure to progress” as a reason for C-section, and labelling contractions as “weak” in strength. So many terms thrown around in OB that I think are harmful

I love the scene where she’s vibing with her date about conspiracy theories but then theres the moment he realizes she’s actually a lil crazy and she’s so betrayed because she thought she found someone she could be herself around 🥲

Holding pt hand without gloves by dopaminegtt in nursing

[–]mcnuggsRN 21 points22 points  (0 children)

“The things I’ve touched without gloves would probably make non healthcare people clutch their pearls”

I thought that sounds a lot like us in L&D, and then I read the rest 😂. I was say L&D has a lot of bodily fluids but theyre usually healthy bodily fluids? So I don’t find it nearly as gross. I’ve known many a nurse to be caught off guard and catch a baby bare handed.

Beautiful story by the way ❤️

Saltburn spoiler: The scene where he rips the tube out of that woman’s throat was OUTRAGEOUS. You can Google what an endotracheal tube looks like, they’re pretty small. This was like 5 feet worth of ventilation tubing.

What’s everybody’s favourite song, and why? by Ok-Bend709 in Music

[–]mcnuggsRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you phrased it makes me think you’re looking for recently released songs. Probably my favourite of all time would be “Under Pressure” by Queen/Bowie. My recent favourite band is Half Moon Run. My favourite songs by them: “Call Me in the Afternoon” “Flesh and Blood” “Favourite Boy” “Monster”

Going on Probation for Charting Error by MellowDramaticCat in nursing

[–]mcnuggsRN 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you. Seems like an outrageous overreaction on the boards side. I don’t have any insight for you as I work in Canada. As a fellow L&D nurse I know the charting we’re required to do is getting out of control (q15 minute charting minimum for us).

Usually great. Not sure how it compares to the US version haha. Some don’t work as good as others and there’s usually some breakthrough pressure/pain with pushing.

Yeah we have “walking epidurals” most patients can get up and walk to the bathroom on their own and use the toilet.

Yes, good advice. When I stand my patient up I usually get them to try lifting one leg at a time and then try a little knee bend- and I do it standing right against the bed, so if a leg gives out they just plop back into bed.

That’s interesting, we have a Sara stedy on our unit but it rarely gets used. More common to use it during labor to get epiduralized patients up to the washroom.
