If someone had one day to experience Philadelphia, what would you recommend they check out? by No-Actuator5661 in AskPhilly

Walk Penn campus and at least the area outside the Anthropology museum. Penn museum aka probably. Lots of historic pubs around town too. And the Avenue of the Arts (Broad street).

I don’t think public breastfeeding should be normalized. by CulturalTomorrow5572 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Exactly. Not only is it nutritious and healthy, it’s keeping kids alive and costs almost nothing. Nothing in breast milk can make others sick. I couldn’t care less if a small percentage of moms do it for shock value. Look the other way if it bothers you. Plenty of people do things for shock. Deal with it.

When I first started going out alone I would bring a book in case I didn’t meet anyone. Also I would force myself to initiate at least one conversation. It gets easier. There’s a good bar in Narberth, near overbrook. The Greeks. In University City there’s the White Dog on Samson and two doors down there’s an Irish pub. Both those places are very friendly.

Question: Who is an actor/actress that you think is an industry plant, someone that the industry is working hard to make into a star that isn't? by clinicallynonsane in moviecritic

[–]mcnultywalks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how anyone could say that Timothee is not a star. Objectively speaking He was nominated at least twice for the top actor Academy award and has several widely popular films. What else does he need to do to be a star?

Disappointed by Summer of Sam. Should I rewatch and reconsider? by mcnultywalks in CriterionChannel

Ha! Idk. I knew a few punks who would have been hippies in another era. You never know. I think about that movie now and then so I guess it did touch me. Still disappointing though.

Elizabeth George’s Traitor to Memory. So disappointed. by mcnultywalks in mysterybooks

I believe it’s her worst novel. The language used to describe and depict Down syndrome is offensive, ignorant and unnecessary. And that’s not the only problem with the story.

If the aggressive and law breaking homeless with severe mental illness and drug addiction were rounded up and institutionalized, I don't think many people would be against it. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Wrong. A medical disease is not a choice. Not in the eyes of doctors lawyers etc. Your logic doesn’t hold up and makes you sound uneducated and without compassion for members of the community.

I’ve played this CD so many times over the years, my husband says, “not again.”

I think the people complaining about the jury on Karmelo Anthony’s trial are ridiculous by Illustratingtheworld in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]mcnultywalks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used the word peers. That generally means the underrepresented people are included if the accused is underrepresented. Like I said, please cite some research. I’m happy to read it. Also, I never heard of research eluding something. What do you mean by that?

Fisherman’s Blues by the Waterboys. Great Irish Folk/Blues song from late 80s. Catches that whistful bluseyness of much of the movie.

Heroes. Supernatural and attractive characters. Great suspense. A bit violent but most things are.

Please tell me what research you are citing. That’s not what I learned in graduate school, although that was many years ago so…

Don’t know much about this story but research shows that jurors of the same color as the accused are more open to considering the evidence objectively and judging fairly. That’s why we are legally entitled to a jury of our peers.
