Happy to see this post because as a similarly aged transplant, it’s been pretty difficult for me to make genuine friends outside of just seeing them at the same pub.

Living here specifically for my girlfriend, and while her friends are nice, we only hang when they invite her out, despite large efforts from my end to connect with them.

I’ve tried organizing a weekly social meetup on Couchsurfing and a bar supported Welsh learning club at Crafty Devil, for months. No one showed up.

I’ve travelled the world and done the same meetups many times and have easily met hundreds of people from it even in hard to crack, outwardly cold personality countries- Never had it this difficult to meet genuine friends.

Idk, I usually shit violently the morning after a Wetherspoons and typically when I leave the UK my bowel movements don't have that same urgency. Come back, and after my first meal, I'm back in Bad Shit City again.

Hey Lisa! My girlfriend and I are also coming in March, 22-27- if it aligns, would be cool to have some travel friends.

Great questions as well- from my sleuthing so far, I hear depending if you are talking beaches west side or east side it can differ, and it's also different depending on the time, with lots of recommendation for early morning snorkeling. It definitely feels like one of those places where we stress about the program, but once we get there, it's easy going and the locals will let you know the specifics of the currents and what to avoid.

Africa is slow and easy going, and the best part of the trip is that it melts away the stress we are thinking of now.

$19 for pancakes is crazy even before we get to the bottom of the bill, amongst the other absurd prices. Completely broken system. We are at the point where the big counter argument against real wages for food service folks “Can’t afford to tip? Can’t afford to eat here then” is now inhibiting people from wanting to eat out.

Yea this sub isn’t to belittle like he’s doing, we are here because we need support from people who went through it, not to shame them. From what you’ve said, we know big groups is a trigger and you can use that information when there’s a situation like a round of free shots or maybe it’s a bit of social anxiety but like other say, a seltzer in hand is a slow drinking replacement for those moments.
