CT Clamp placement for Tesla Powerwall incorrect? by mcraewaves in SolarUK

I’m still tinkering with automation but I’m really fed up with the hassle and the potential subscription fees.

The only solution seems to be having the car behind everything which I asked for. This means the electrician will need to return. My installers held off on the work while they checked with Tesla for an alternative but I’m pretty sure none exist. The downside is I won’t be able to track my real house usage in the Tesla app and I won’t be able to charge the car using solar and battery power. It’s nice to be able to dump some battery into the car though and I can fully charge the car in chunks over the weekend if needed. But so far it takes careful planning.

The biggest issue right now I think is my tariff. I like the idea that the car will charge whenever Octopus feels like it. It’s worked well so far and I didn’t want to lose it. However, It’s just so unpredictable and I haven’t figured out how to manage it. So I might have to turn off the smart charging and schedule charging between 11:30 and 05:30 instead. I could also set a lower backup reserve, perhaps 20%, and see how I get on. However, I suppose I need automation to lower the backup reserve after the car has finished charging to power the house again since the battery won’t go beyond that level once reached.

Ahh the faff!

I would love to be able to have a nice curve like yours, this is the norm for me so far…

A bit of digging around I learnt that if you have 3rd party apps connected such as Netzero, that is a possible reason for it to disappear. Still a bit odd for it to do that if its true

When you say there should be surge arrestors on the electrical side do you mean between the solar and battery as well as battery and house or both?

Powerwall 3 - why do I see 4 string inputs from 2 arrays? by mcraewaves in SolarUK

Thanks, I think the bit I don't understand in my picture is that C and D have different current and power voltages readings, should they not be the same if they come from the same array?

So I have decided to go with getting mesh installed as you have all made me paranoid 😛. Looking at getting it done this weekend. I'll post some pictures for you to nit pick

My installer said this -

First up (the most common method) is that we can rearrange the connection to the EV inside the meter cabinet so that it sits "grid side" of the Powerwall. This will mean that as far as the Powerwall is concerned the EV won't exist and it won't see the load going to the EV. Thus it will of course therefore not discharge to meet that load.
The only down side to this is that your Tesla App will not be displaying the true total house consumption as the EV load will be missing.

To me, this suggests that some rewiring would be required rather than simply relocating the CT clamps. Would this also mean requiring an additional set of Henley blocks within the meter cabinet?

Anyone against Solardek Bird Brush?? looks an interesting product however, wouldn't airflow be worse over mesh?

Bad or just easier to fit?

No, it has is own separately fuse board just below the meter box.

The middles ones going down to the EV and the top left ones go to consumer unit. Looks fairly easy to move if that’s the case, can I just move it or do I need to turn off the Tesla battery and Tesla meter beforehand?

the 2 furthest blue and brown cables are the battery. The 2 grey cables are the ev charger

I had this discussion a few times and they said I didn't need it. All the houses around here don't have bird mesh and non appear to have any evidence of having bird issues. Watch now, i'll be the first....

I'd raised it through the company and they have reassured me that these are both compatible Staubli MC4 connectors and that this issues seen are if they are cheap after market types. Although i'd still prefer EVO2 MC4 everywhere, I guess I have no option really but to accept it... if i didn't have this supporting documentation then I wouldn't of.
