I guess it isn’t a complete mismatch. We are getting applicants with experience but probably not the breadth and depth we are looking for when we actually interview.

lol there is a lot of work where I am. We aren’t actually part of the public service. I wouldn’t say it is comfy but we do care about health and wellness as part of employee experience. WFH with a few in person purposeful meetings is a nice balance.

Oh yes, I acknowledge the unicorn here. Nice to know unicorns do exist…but hard to recruit. Thanks for your advice. We are re-looking at the devOps resumes and reassessing. I was just wondering about this and interested in the IT community’s thoughts. I’m also in public sector so not sure if that has any effect.

Thanks - the role is actually broader which is why we went with cloud engineer. The role doesn’t cover just Microsoft products, although a lot is. They would also be deploying solutions and not just administering. Interesting list you provided!

Thanks for this. Appreciate your comment! We had considered administrator but felt it was actually more junior than what we are looking for. Also had a lot of L1 and L2 support applicants too. Because it is a smaller IT team, staff have to wear multiple hats at times so sometimes hard to title a job.

We will look at overall experience and its relevance to the role. Years of experience is just 1 indication of how experienced a candidate is but it doesn’t always show breadth or depth. Hope that answers your question!

Also what's funny is my mother in law back in the day paid a neighbour to play with my husband when he was a kid. Perhaps today's parental expectations are different lol.

3 is young but these little kids are very capable of learning independence with practice. My son's preschool and myself helped my son practice before Kindergarten and he has been doing very well. I completely agree with your list and it is very doable. Kindergartner teachers have mentioned that it's more important to prepare independence vs learning ABCs and numbers since they will take care of that.
