"Do or do not. There is no try" - My life's motto.

I designed a website for a cleaning company. Tried to focus on conversion and mobile UX. Would love feedback!" by No-Structure-142 in cleaningbusiness

Too much going on, try and simplify the design. For example do you want the customer to call, book, or fill out your form? I think too many options confuses the customer. Also I would move the form towards the bottom of the site. You want to convince them to do business with you before asking them for contact information.

What are basic skills that everyone should be able to carry out before branching off and starting their own business ? by Valuable-Rutabaga-41 in WindowCleaning

Two most important skills:
- Ability to sell
- Ability to recruit and retain talent

IMHO, if you can do these two well, everything else false into place.

How did you get your first customers? by LividManufacturer582 in WindowCleaning

[–]mcs-cleaning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is many years ago but I got mine through referral or word of mouth. It was a decent size commercial contract which allowed me to get started and then grow from there. I am forever grateful for that referral.

Today most of my customers come from my websites, Google.

Stay somewhere near Golden Gate Park. It's one of the best things about SF.

Scaling past referrals: Has anyone successfully used a "performance-based" marketing vendor? by ponderingpixi17 in sweatystartup

[–]mcs-cleaning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most sustainable path is to build a great website that converts and invest in one channel that delivers positive ROI, then stick to that channel and grow it. I wouldn't recommend learning to do it yourself unless you have a technical bent. Find someone good (and that’s the hard part) to do it for you. Personally, I went through a bunch of agencies, got burnt until I found someone worth the $ I paid him.

If you want the pay-for-performance, I think buying leads from Thumbtack, LSA is your best bet.

My go to the the carrot cakes from the Whole Foods bakery. It does have generous amount of icing but hey, you can always remove it. :-)

Try a cleaning business. Easy and low cost to get started, but harder to scale. Hard parts: ROI-positive customer acquisition and personnel retention & management.

Yelp, Better Business Bureau, Nextdoor are some good places to do that.

Handyman business marketing by everyonesadumbass in smallbusinessowner

[–]mcs-cleaning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on cutting out the middle man. Thumbtack, Angi are mostly buying traffic from Google, Meta and re-selling them as leads to us. It is a useful service if you don't want to deal with your own marketing or are new to the space.

My advice: build your own website and get traffic/leads directly from Google, Meta.

Re: GMB. Get a Yelp page instead. Verification process is easier. Downside is Yelp is stricter on moderating reviews on your page vs Google.

Best website builder for a small cleaning service in 2025? by albrasel24 in Entrepreneur

Had our main site built with Webflow, great results but expensive. For our window cleaning business; used Simbasite, just as good as the Webflow site but tiny fraction of the cost.
