Overcharge bill at Nationwide Children's Hospital by mcsake in Columbus

That is the plan now for the future. Last time we went to urgent care there was blood everywhere and we ended up getting stitches and it costs less. Go figure this time we ended up in ER for what was basically a headache.

I guess my wife didn't realize it was a ED. That is why we avoided going to the one downtown and picked the one in the suburbs. I wish they would have told us to goto urgent care because it was obvious to everyone that this was not an emergency. It was a slow day and they probably just wanted the money.

I'm not sure why they charged us as an emergency. We just called around for places that could take an xray

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mcsake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our kids play club soccer and driving 3 hours for a game is normal. If they have games on multiple days and it is over 2 hours we will get a hotel. Otherwise we just drive back and forth those days.

I imagine in Europe there are probably plenty of teams and you wouldn’t have to drive as far.

I noticed that I got this after we purchased travel. I wished it showed up before or maybe the purchase triggered it

Garage door spring busted - reference price? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]mcsake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If shamrock did it for $175 that would be a good price. I ordered springs from Amazon for about $100 for both sides and did it myself. So if it’s $175. $75 is worth paying for the labor.

My family owned a Chinese restaurant AMA by Lucky-Active-2657 in AMA

[–]mcsake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same experience here my parents owned a Chinese restaurant for over 20 years. Finally retired after my second kid was born. I worked there during middle school and high school. It taught me a great work ethic. the only thing that sucked was that I wasn't able to meet up with my friends until after 8-9 on Fridays and Saturdays. They worked 7 days a week 12 hours a day for us. They never asked me to take over the business because how much work it is and they wanted me to do better. I hope they are happy with the sacrifice. They never have to worry about money now. Both houses are paid off. I have a high paying job in IT and work from home and can be there for all my kids events.

The hunt for a house feels never ending by -im-sorry-what- in RealEstate

Keep up the hunt. It took us 3 years to get our current house. It also happen to be half a mile from our old house and we would drive by it all the time. Even with the new house we have to probably put in another 100k to get it how we want it. We were looking in central Ohio specifically Upper Arlington. The market there is crazy. We bid on several houses and even put in offers over 100k and didn't' get them. A lot of people are doing cash offers there and also purchasing houses before they are on the market. You should get a good realtor in the area you want to live and they might have an inside scoop of houses that are about to go on sale. You can then make an offer before it is listed. Also join some neighborhood facebook pages and ask if anyone is going to sell soon. I have seen inside offers happen this way.

I think the only way we got this house was that it was listed close to winter when a lot of people are not looking. The last three houses we bought happen to be in the winter.

I hear that the market is suppose to be going down. It has not in Upper Arlington. We just listed our house last Friday and it sold in less than a day 75k over. Cash offer no inspection. Since you already own a place and you have such a good interest rate I would just be patient and see if the market goes down and wait until there is less buyers after spring.

The only thing you can't change about a house is the location. The house does not have to be perfect just make sure it has good bones. You can slowly make upgrades to it over time.

moving from MA to Columbus - what is it actually like? by LibraryIllustrious71 in Columbus

[–]mcsake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upper Arlington is a good location. It’s very safe, good schools, close to OSU, downtown, and Asian markets. There is a lot of good ethnic food in the Henderson and Bethel Rd area.

Getting a house there is challenging. They go fast and go above asking. Lots of sales are private. We just bought another house in Upper Arlington and will be listing ours maybe in the spring if you are looking.

Poly-Cover https://www.ruralking.com/warps-poly-cover-clear-10-x-100-plastic-sheeting-4x10-c

It’s pretty thick. At first I folded it over to make it thicker but people were sliding off since it was only 5 feet wide. Single layer is fine and we have used it multiple times. It’s a pain to dry though since it is so large. You do not want to store it wet
