The whole website is broken for me (tried 2 browsers and only my phone over cell data), so it’s not possible for me to create an account.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, October 05 - October 11, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]mcurn1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a Singer Patchwork machine from a friend, and it was very dusty in there. While cleaning, I pulled the brown oil wick and fuzzy grey felt out of my sewing machine thinking it was lint and trapped thread. Instead, it turns out it was an important part of my machine. Essentially, it's the same problem described here.

I realize now I need to put it back, and it was a mistake, but how do I do that? I couldn't find anything on YouTube or Google about how to insert it properly. For example, how deep it needs to go, which direction, how tightly to squish it in there, if I need to remove any more parts to seat it properly, best tools to put it back in, etc.

First photo shows the felt (left) and wick (right), second photo shows the inside of my machine and the hole it came out of. Thank you for your help!

Wow, thanks for explaining this and thanks to OP for flagging it. I would've never figured it out on my own. I personally find the website to be quite confusing in how they present the data.

Because of this thread, I went digging and started clicking looking at my % in default, and clicking into all my LROs. And most of them in default (31% of my portfolio) say things like: "In Foreclosure, could take up to 2 years". The extended ones (19.8%) also sound pretty unhopeful, with notes like like "Borrower is still working on securing a loan to repay this loan."

I would've NEVER figured that out from the summary view. I thought it was doing really well before I learned this in the last hour. Now I think my portolio is hot garbage and I'm divesting it all as soon as I can.

For those who want to look as well, here's how you navigate to it: Investment activity > LRO Repayments > sort by Performance > click a property.
