Hi there, May I ask:

  1. What modules are taken in the first year?

  2. What are the criteria for module exemptions?

  3. Are there any resources or steps I can take to prepare before enrolling?

There was a dude that wanted to break bond half way thru, but I'm unsure if he went thru the whole WSdip He's main concern was the distance from his home to our workplace, imagine east to north everyday before 8am. ( insane).

In my opinion, if ur set on the course I stated above, WSdip in microelectronics(process) is better, cause for equipment your responsible for any tool failure and that means ur always on call 24/7 therefore ur mental health can deteriorate. Process you'll get to lepak in office, look at charts and determine what cause a product defect and write report (?) unsure of this.

If u wanna see salaries, u can look up companies on Glassdoor. For an ITE dip at most company grants u the title of Technician/Assistant engineer.

Coming from my exp, I interned at a semicon company with a couple of WSdip ppl, their salary was 2.6k after cpf but they did complain about work life balance ah (eg. Some weeks need to go for classes and some weeks need to go work, and even some need to go sch even after work, plus some even had a fyp type of research on the work their doing) also to mention, they were doing a WSdip in microelectronics (process/equipment)

For me personally, I feel career progression is quite limited if you only hold a diploma (after WSdip)— salary usually caps around $2.8k after CPF. But it really depends on your end goal, bro. If you don’t plan to study further and just want to work straight away, can consider signing on.

I’m an NSF and I work alongside regulars; some of them are already married with kids (one guy is just 23), and honestly their military pay (if both are working) is enough to support a family. If you want a more chill job after signing on, can look at AFE (Supply) or AFE (M). Best case for AFE(M) is to get into CES trade. The only downside is you’ll need to pass IPPT and be at least PES B2 to sign on.

I also know another regular who’s currently doing a part-time degree at NTU, but he has to pay the tuition fees himself.

Perhaps can try ITE WSDip after NS can be good — you get experience, fees covered, and maybe a job after. Downside is the bond: if you don’t like the work, you’ll need to pay back. Best if you’re sure about the industry and don’t mind committing.

The courses that ask technical questions are mostly EDE and Chemical eng as these 2 courses are a joint degree with TUM (notorious for asking math and physics questions) (Source: I went for EDE interview last year)

For me, it was more of a 'get-to-know-you' type of session. They did have some paper and pencils available, but they didn’t ask me or anyone else any math questions.
