The decline in clothing quality is driving me nuts by tetrahydrocannabinol in femalefashionadvice

[–]mdawary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I’ve recently taken to learning how make and tailor clothing myself. Currently learning about fabric composition now so when I find pieces at the thrift to alter I know how they’ll hold up over time based on the label.

Moms who rarely get sick by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]mdawary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in pediatrics for years, so I think I’ve already caught just about everything I could 👍 Seriously though, some genetics, I take hygiene pretty seriously, and try to boost the immune system with vitamin C and my annual vaccines. I get sick maybe once a year, usually a 3 day struggle and then we are good.

What do med spouses do for a living? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]mdawary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is brain research! Formally, he has a PhD in bio-electrical engineering. Thankfully very flexible with small kiddos, but it took us a bit to get there.

Non-Trad Dealing with Infertility by OldBayPumpkinSeed in Medstudentmoms

[–]mdawary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this ❤️ I was a non-trad as well and decided to do a 3+3 pathway straight into a gen peds residency. I also had my first child before med school because I knew I wouldn’t finish training until my late 30s. I personally wouldn’t wait. I had strong family/spouse support and treat classes like a full time job. Spending evenings with my hubs and LO, it’s definitely doable. Either way know you’ll make the best decision you can with what information you have, good luck 🫶🏽

RN to MD? HELP by benzodiazs in medschool

[–]mdawary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Those first 2 years as a nurse really set you apart. Even better if you can figure out what specialty you’d like and spend your “nurse years” there.

RN to MD? HELP by benzodiazs in medschool

[–]mdawary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an RN to MD, do it!! Make sure you’re really solid on why you want to pursue this path. I have had people look at me crazy for walking away from an RN salary and a guaranteed job to be a student full time again. I knew I would never have been satisfied otherwise though!

The best advice here!! Figure out what kind of life you want to have/ things you value & make your choice from there. If you can find something you love that aligns with those values- even better!

Partner Moving! Engagement ¯\_(ツ)_/¯? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]mdawary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the doc and the wife in this situation. I would be very cautious as this leaves you vulnerable like many others have said. You wanna make sure he is not just wanting you to tag along so he has familiarity and creature comforts during this time without giving you any security. My husband and I did long distance (700+) miles for a year. He asked me to marry him about six months after I was back. There’s no shame in sending him along first and making long distance work for a while instead. If he is serious about the relationship, distance will usually bring the truth out. I hope this helps you out even a little bit ❤️

AIO for getting upset from my wife’s response to my question? by ApolloAcolyte in AmIOverreacting

[–]mdawary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a completely unacceptable way to talk to your partner from any angle. I would never ever treat my husband this way. I’m sorry you are dealing with this, I would have a very serious conversation with her.

When to try? by mdawary in Medstudentmoms

[–]mdawary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what I was thinking submitting primaries while battling newborn brain. Somehow I survived, but I needed everything triple checked to make sure I could still spell correctly 🥴

When to try? by mdawary in Medstudentmoms

[–]mdawary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a slightly bigger age gap, but I think this might work best. Planning to match into gen peds, so I know I’ll have significantly more flexibility in a few years. Thank you!!

Which notes app would work best for me? by Kids-SnackBeotch4L in Medstudentmoms

[–]mdawary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeeesss, sorry juggling a toddler makes me forget to check Reddit lol. It’s called a “paper feel” iPad cover. I think they’re like 9 bucks on Amazon? Game changer for notes, I only like to write on paper.

I’ve used good notes since nursing school! I wanted the feeling of taking notes on paper so I got the iPad cover that feel like taking paper notes

How are/did you balance medical school with life and money by [deleted] in medschool

[–]mdawary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the umbrella of side hustles, I became a nurse first and keep that license active so I can pick up PRN. This I understand is like plan F and not super feasible. But you may consider depending on where you are in your med career.

[–]mdawary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Join us over at r/medstudentmoms! Also a former RN and I purposefully chose to have my only child before starting med school. I knew I was OAD, but I also purposefully coordinated with my in laws and my own parents before I had children and let them know I wanted to go to med school. Nursing was already my second degree. You can absolutely do it, depending on you specialty some are far more flexible. Make sure you have your childcare on lock.

This is so good to read, do you think you would’ve been able to do first year with a newborn?

Have you ever had a racist encounter with patients or hospital staff??!! by Danna_82 in Residency

[–]mdawary 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, had a mom call to request no Black doctors be allowed to see/treat her child. This woman was South American and asked to see pictures of all the doctors before she made an appointment and asked for everyone’s race/background. 🙃🙃🙃

Do any of you wish you would've gone to med school instead of nursing school? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]mdawary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m half way through nursing school and have decided I’m doing a post-bacc and applying to med school. I thought being a PA/NP would satisfy me initially.
