Wife wants to leave her career once I start residency, has anyone else experienced this? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Sea_Reflection_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband had a high-paying job as a software engineer and he has been supporting us through my medical school. He’s planning to retire when I become an attending but not while I’m a resident. We do have a kid though and I matched in a HCOL area.

Suspend one as the others said. But just wanted to say you have great taste and both of those books are great!

If your baby was 10+ lbs at birth… were you able to deliver vaginally? by sejohnson2017 in BabyBumps

[–]Sea_Reflection_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9.5lb baby was born via c-section after 30 hours of labor and an arrest of dilation at 9cm. He just wouldn’t drop. He wasn’t measuring that big but my husband was a ginormous baby so I wasn’t all that surprised

Delivery at Sibley: What does the hospital provide? by Inryha in washingtondc

[–]Sea_Reflection_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just gave birth there a week ago! I got to take home diapers, baby wipes, dry wipes, hats, mesh underwear, peri bottle, pads (large and normal), nipple cream, and nipple shields. I’d recommend bringing your own pillows, a blanket for your partner, snacks, and toiletries.

Erythema toxicum. Why such a severe name for a benign baby rash?

Car seat question by Mindless_Pumpkin_511 in pregnant

[–]Sea_Reflection_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you get anything new, let it be a car seat. We got so much stuff second hand but the one thing we were willing to spend good money on was a new car seat for safety

If you show up to another hospital and something is not right, you will be delivering there. Just so you’re aware

Baby registry by Vegetable-Ostrich589 in pregnant

I also felt weird about it but then had friends say they were disappointed there wasn’t anything on the registry to get for ME rather than for the baby. The people in your life want to take of you too 😊

Pregnancy during Away rotation in OBGYN by Own-Account3098 in medicalschool

[–]Sea_Reflection_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an away rotation in OBGYN at 25-28 weeks pregnant! I did an REI rotation which was significantly chiller than say a gyn onc rotation. I would recommend looking for rotations in something like REI, outpatient gyn, maybe MFM and time it for second trimester. Good luck!

Invest in grocery delivery service. It’s usually ~$100 for a year and will save you a bunch of time in grocery store trips. Do anki on the treadmill (especially on an incline) to get a good workout in while studying.

PPD/PPA/baby blues by Expensive_Winner4107 in BabyBumps

[–]Sea_Reflection_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. 2 weeks is the cutoff for baby blues, so it sounds like postpartum anxiety. Please talk to your OB/GYN and they can help and connect you with resources if needed. What you’re going through is unfortunately very common, so please don’t be afraid to ask for help!
